Nobles Wins Big

Today’s scores will appear, along with their box scores. It is from these box scores that we put together the capsule summaries of the day’s games. Without any further ado, here they are. We keep updating them until around midnight, or later.
-- Host Nobles thumped Thayer, 10-0.
-- Brewster topped host St. Paul’s, 6-2. Maddy Joyce had two assists for St. Paul’s and, in goal, Loni Pisani played well in a losing cause.
-- Holderness, playing on the road, edged Proctor, 2-1.
-- Westminster beat host Millbrook, 10-1. Sara Ugalde had a hat trick. Other standouts included Tori Pizzuto (1g,1a), Nicole Fox (1g), Mily Walsh (2g), Katelyn Morton (2g) and Jesse Waters (3a).
-- At Stowe, Vt., NAHA White topped Northwood, 6-1, with goals coming from six different skaters. Brooke Ammerman (1g,2a) and Brittany Skudder (2a) led the scorers.
-- A four-goal second period sparked Tabor to a 5-1 victory last night at Milton Academy. Newcomer Caroline English and senior Kristen Bryne led the team with two goals each. Captain Marissa Gentile (8) scored as well. For Milton, Marissa Simmons was the lone goal scorer.
-- At Rye, NY, Canterbury blanked Rye Country Day, 4-0.
-- At South Hamilton, Mass., North Yarmouth Academy shut out Pingree, 7-0.
-- At Cambridge, Mass., Andover topped host BB&N, 3-1. BB&N got out to an early lead with 5:49 to play in the first period on Jessica Martino's first goal of the year. After many near-misses by the Andover squad, freshman Avery Stone scored her first career goal, tying up the game on a beautiful shot from the point that snuck in just under the pipe with 43 seconds to play in the opening period . Junior Lindsey Weiner assisted on the play. After regrouping in the locker room Andover came out and dominated the second and third periods, outshooting the Knights 30-8. Junior Nancy Ann Little scored what turned out to be the winner at 13:35 of the second and junior Jamie Harisiades scored an unassisted goal at 10:45 to put the Blue up 3-1. Senior Joy Joung and sophomore Alissa Fromkin '09 split the win in net.
-- Host Hebron topped Phillips Exeter, 7-4.
-- Cushing played a scrimmage at Brooks.
-- Loomis and St. Mark's also scrimmaged. No score kept.
-- At Sheffield, Mass., Berkshire edged the Troy Ice Cats, 1-0. Scoring and goaltending details unavailable.
-- Host Greenwich Academy topped Kingswood-Oxford, 3-0. New sophomore Libby Miner opened the scoring 2:32 into the game, with an assist from Ellie Castine. Senior Bray Ketchum scored the next two goals, both unassisted. Freshman Alexa Pujol had 23 saves for the shutout.
-- Host Gunnery edged Portledge, 4-3. Kelly Davies (1g,2a), Lindsay Orszulak (1g,1a), and Steph Blasnik (1g,1a) led the Gunnery attack.

Wanted: Some Good People
The U.S. Hockey Report is looking for some good people with knowledge of -- and passion for -- the girls prep game.
Our goal is to elevate USHR’s coverage of girls prep hockey, and lift it up to the boys’ level. There’s quite a way to go, though. On the boy’s side, which has been online since 1997, prep coaches upload their school’s rosters, schedules and, right after every game, complete box score. As a result, we have a ton of information on boy’s prep hockey, including weekly Div. I and Div. II polls, game stories, news, and complete standings and scoring/goaltending leaders. For future historians, we have an archive of players and teams. The system works.
It’s been a little harder to get prep girls coaches to take advantage of USHR. Some do it, and we’re appreciative. Those who read the site -- players, parents, college coaches, alums, etc. – are also appreciative.
However, we need people to fill in the gaps. We can’t wait for all the coaches to get on board. We need volunteers. We need to make sure that we have scores for all Div. I and Div. II games that are played. We need to have an up-to-date schedule that takes into accounts weather cancellations, etc. We need to have every roster and schedule from every prep school. We need people to send in news. We need someone to track college commitments. (And if anyone would like to work on commission, we would like to find someone to sell advertising.)
The U.S. Hockey Report, which is based in Cambridge, Mass., is a paid subscription site for the boys’ side. For the girls, however, it’s still totally free of charge, as we’re taking some of the subscription revenue from the boys and using it to build up the girls’ side.
The links are below. Please check it out. We need to start uploading regular-season schedules ASAP. Volunteers could come from the ranks of parents, players, student managers, school sports reporters – or anywhere. We are looking for reliability, accuracy, and honesty. That’s all. The work is no more complex than, say, ordering a parka online. It’s just a matter of filling out forms, and pressing a key to upload them directly to the site.
Students replying to this help wanted request should know that they will be considered full-fledged US Hockey Report interns. They can put their USHR work on their resume. If they do their work well, they can also count on letters of recommendation to prospective employers. We have had interns who have gone on to be student managers for college hockey programs. Others have used their work with USHR to help get work with daily papers. Others have gone to work as interns at college sports information offices. Some have taken USHR work to keep their hands in the game, and have gone on to (or returned to) coaching and scouting positions.
We find it enjoyable to cover the prep hockey scene, and we’d find it very heartening to successfully build the USHR Girls Prep section into something special, i.e. something close to – and maybe even better than – the boys’ section. We think it can be done, but we need everyone’s help.
