Sat. Feb. 1 Highlights
Belmont Hill 5 @ Rivers 2 – Seniors Will Golonka (2g) and Joe Welch (1g,1a), and juniors Charlie Michalowski (1g,1a) and Charlie Barrow (1g,1a) each had two points to lead Belmont Hill, which is 5-1-1 over its last seven, to improve to 9-6-3 in NEPSIHA play.

@ Northfield-Mt. Hermon 6, Vermont Academy 1 – PG Matt Greenwood scored four goals to help NMH to their fourth win in a row. Greenwood, a native of Oakville, Ontario, scored a natural hat trick to give his team a 3-0 lead and then added a fourth in the third period. PG goaltender Kyle Redmond (24/25) got the win. NMH is now 14-6-0 in NEPSIHA play.

St. Sebastian’s 3 @ Tabor 2 – St. Seb’s junior D Matt Doherty, with an assist to senior Nick Flanagan, scored the game-winner in the third period, a powerplay goal. Junior Danny Higgins kicked out 22 of 24 shots in the Arrows’ net.

Groton 2 @ BB&N 1 – Freshman Tristan Smith scored a powerplay goal early in the third to give Groton the win. In net, senior Matt Pompa stopped 32 of 33. BB&N outshot Groton, 33-15, but came up short on the scoreboard. Groton, unbeaten in its last four (3-0-1), is now 11-5-3 in NEPSIHA play; BB&N is 11-8-1.

St. Mark’s 7 @ Moses Brown 0 – Junior Adam Lee (2g,2a), and sophs Luke O’Brien (2g,2a) and Zach Tsekos (1g,2a) led the way offensively for the Lions. In net, sophomore Ryan Ferland (21 saves) got the shutout. St. Mark’s, which has won three in a row, improves to 12-6-4 in NEPSIHA competition.

@ Kents Hill 4, Pingree  2 – Sophomore Joey Savinsky had a pair of goals, and senior Jared Cockrell had a pair of assists to lead Kents Hill, which outshot Pingree 47-17.

@ Andover 4, Dexter 3 (OT) – Visiting Dexter held a 3-2 lead after two, but PG Robert Devaney tied it up in the third, and PG Thomas Bishop, with an assist from Devaney, scored the winner in OT. Andover junior goalie Eric Wurman kicked out 19 of 22 for the win. Andover outshot Dexter 33-22. Junior Ryan Donato had two goals for Dexter. Andover is undefeated in its last six games (3 wins, 3 ties), beating two Top 10 teams – #6 Nobles and #9 Dexter -- in the process. Andover is now 10-5-3 in NEPSIHA play; Dexter falls to 13-5-0.

Albany Academy 8 @ Winchendon 3 – AA, despite being outshot 39-33, snapped a four-game losing streak. Juniors Shawn Knowlton (2g,2a), Jake Marrello (4a), and Sean Dempsey (1g,2a); and seniors Jake Mayette (2g,1a) and Sean Phillips (2g,1a) led the scoring parade. Junior Jake Watson (36/39) got the win for the Cadets. Winchendon got a pair of goals from junior Ozzie Borrero.

Delbarton 3, Catholic Memorial 0 – In a game played at Yankee Stadium, Delbarton freshman goaltender Troy Kobryn (19/19) shut out Catholic Memorial. Delbarton got goals from three different scorers – and senior D Michael Gilfillan assisted on all of them.

Berwick 3 @ Tilton 2 – Junior Lucas Michaud scored the game-winner with 2:07 left in the third. Junior G Joe Lazzaro (37/39) earned the win. Berwick, 11-7-0 in NEPSIHA play, has won four in a row.

@ Brooks 4, Middlesex 2 – Senior Ian Speliotis scored the game-winner at 9:59 of the third period, and sophomore D Connor Moore added an empty-netter for the 4-2 win, which enabled Brooks, now 13-7-1 in NEPSIHA play, to snap a two-game losing streak. Junior G Max Prawdzik (32/33) earned the win. Soph Tristan Collins was the hard-luck loser for Middlesex.

A Short Break

A number of prep coaches -- and this is something we greatly appreciate here at USHR -- enter their line scores and/or box scores themselves. Some don't, however, and because of that we rely on a great volunteer who, for years now, has been seeking out and filling in all the missing scores -- a true labor of love.

Alas, he needs a break, and will be off duty until Sunday, at which time he will fill in the blanks and bring things up to date. In the meantime, we offer in advance our thanks to any coaches who enter their own scores.

Snowday

It doesn't look good for Wednesday's slate of games, as the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for pretty much all of New England. 

Across Massachusetts, up to 10 inches of snow is expected.

If coaches could email information(at)ushr.com and let us know if your game has been canceled or postponed, we'd be grateful. If the latter, please let us know if you have a makeup date. We have some changes already, and they can be found in the prep composite schedule below.

By the way, the Weather Channel is calling this one Nika, which they are claiming is named for the Greek goddess of victory. When this typist was in middle school, the Greek goddess of victory was Nike -- with an e -- and still is, though perhaps that name was subsequently trademarked by the sneaker guys, assuming one can even trademark a Greek goddess. More likely, the Weather Channel didn't want people to think they were naming storms after sneakers. We can understand that. However, Nika, as in the name of the impending storm, is the ancient Greek word for conquer or victory, which seems like a foreboding name for a winter storm.
