Sat. Dec. 14 Highlights

Ashburnham, Mass. – Cushing Academy got two goals from senior Adam Augusta and a 23-save effort from junior goaltender Joey Daccord to top Exeter 3-1 here today. For Cushing it was a solid team effort while Exeter seemed flat, falling behind 3-0 before getting a late second period goal from Kevin Neiley, Exeter’s most effective forward today, to cut it to 3-1. It was an efficient, workman-like effort from the Penguins from start to finish and the outcome never seemed to really be in doubt. The game was clean and not particularly physical, and didn’t have the edge of traditional Cushing-Exeter games.

“I liked our discipline on the forecheck,” said Cushing head coach Rob Gagnon afterward. “We had sticks in the passing lanes and I felt like our D did a good job playing D and getting pucks up. That’s all we want because part of our philosophy is if we get pucks to the neutral zone we’re OK because our forwards are so good. Bailey Conger and Jake Simons were good today. Matt Hoover competes and does a good job. All four lines were contributing. I also think we did a good job clogging up the neutral zone and that might have taken Exeter out of their game a bit.”

“A tip of the hat to Cushing,” said Exeter head coach Dana Barbin. “They beat us. We had our share of opportunities on the powerplay, but they did a good job killing them. We didn’t play with a whole lot of confidence.

@ Westminster 5, Pomfret 2 – Sophomore Taggart Corriveau scored four straight goals – a natural hat trick in the first, and then a single goal in the second -- to give his team a 4-0 lead after two en route to a 5-2 home win. Of Corriveau’s four goals, two were even strength and two came on the PP. Junior D Frankie Sullivan, junior F Jack Fitzgerald, and sophomore F Johnny McDermott each had two assists. Westminster sophomore goaltender Stephen Gasior (22/24) earned the win. Five of the game’s combined seven goals came on the power play.

Avon Old Farms 4 @ Trinity-Pawling 2 – Avon held a 3-0 lead early in the second, but T-P came back with a pair to make it interesting. An empty-netter gave the Winged Beavers their final goal. T-P outshot Avon 38-26 but Avon junior goalie Tucker Weppner kicked out 36 shots to earn the win.

Berkshire 4 @ NMH 1 – Senior goalie George Blinick stopped 36 shots and classmates Charlie Corcoran (3a) and Craig Puffer (1g,1a) led the attack. Shots on goal were 37-37.

@ Deerfield 4, Choate 2 – Junior goalie Jake Kahler kicked out 17 shots and senior forwards Sam Lafferty (1g,2a), Trevor Yates (3a), and Camil Blanchet (1g,1a) led the attack. The Big Green outshot Choate, 31-19.

Kimball Union 5 @ Tilton 1 – Senior Tyler Bird (2g,1a) had three points. Senior F Joey Dudek (1g,1a), senior D Ben Shapiro (2a), and junior F AJ Greer (2a) each had two. Junior Gavin Nieto stopped 20 of 21 shots for the win.

@ Holderness 4, Kents Hill 1 – Holderness got goals from four different scorers and junior G Mark Michaels stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced.

@ Dexter 8, Hebron 0 – Junior F Ryan Donato (3g,3a) had a six-point afternoon and senior goaltenders Pat Fraser and Joe Kelly combined for a 21-save shutout. Soph Kevin Hock (1g,2a), junior Matt Brazel (1g,2a), and senior Mark Webber (2g) were other contributors. Seniors Liam Feeney and Ian Sheridan each added two assists.

Milton 4 @ Governor’s 1 – Milton captain and senior defenseman Chad Malinowski (2g,1a) figured in three of the Mustangs’ four goals, as did senior D Connor Wynne (3a).  Junior Drew Hotte (16/17) earned the win in goal.

@ Brooks 3, St. Mark’s 0 – Junior goaltender Max Prawdzik stopped all 15 shots he faced for the shutout, and sophomore F Henry Cormier (2g) and senior Ian Speliotis (2a) teamed up on two of Brooks’ three goals.

@ Tabor 4, St. Paul’s 2 – The Seawolves handed St. Paul’s their first loss of the season as senior forwards Joe Slovak (2g,1a) and Fred Kaub (1g,2a) each had three points. Junior goalie Riley Whitham (22/24) earned the win.
