We have rosters, schedules, and results for about 35 girls’ teams in these pages. We still need volunteers to post info for the following 16 programs. It’s easy to do. Our goal is simply to have a total record – a permanent archive -- of the girls’ game in the 2008-09 season.

The schools we are missing are Andover, BB&N, Cushing, Hotchkiss, Kent, St. Mark’s, St. Paul’s, Williston, Berwick, Dana Hall, Governor’s, Kimball Union, Middlesex, Rivers
Rye Country Day, St. George’s, and Winsor.

Please send a note to information@ushr.com if you have a daughter playing at one of the above schools and would like to help out. Also please send along word of any cancellations due to the weather tomorrow. Drive safely -- if you have to drive, that is.

We’re Getting There

We have rosters, schedules, and results for about 34 girls’ teams in these pages. We still need volunteers from the following 17 programs:

Andover
BB&N
Cushing
Hotchkiss
Kent
St. Mark’s
St. Paul’s
Williston
Berwick
Dana Hall
Governor’s
Kimball Union
Middlesex
Rivers
Rye Country Day
St. George’s
Winsor

Once we get these schools set up, we will have totally accurate standings, and every team will be listed on the composite weekly schedule.

Please send a note to information@ushr.com if you have a daughter playing at one of the above schools and would like to help out. Also, you don’t have to have a daughter there. You can be a coach or on the school’s staff, or anything. We just need reliable people to help out. We think within a week or so, just in time for Feburary’s stretch run, we will have a pretty complete resource here. We need your help, though.

Big Changes for the USHR Girls Site

We’ve been mulling over how best to lift the USHR Girls site up by its bootstraps. We’ve received some tremendous feedback from girls’ prep coaches, women’s college coaches, and parents of players.

Now we want to do something with what we’ve learned. We want, by the end of January, to have the rosters, schedules, and results of every single prep game played to date posted on USHR. We don’t necessarily need the full box scores – that would be optional – but we definitely need the results.

On the boys’ side, as those of you who have boys playing prep hockey already know, we have 100% participation. The boys’ coaches are responsible for directly uploading their team’s information to the site, and they do a great job at it. For various reasons, that hasn’t translated to the girls’ side.

We think that’s too bad. We want this site be the living archive for the game. We want every girl playing prep school hockey today to be able to look back years from now and use the site as a memory book – to be able to see who she played with and against, how her teams did, and just have it all as a keepsake of sorts. We are certain parents want that, too. And we are certain most coaches do, too.

On a more practical side, we know women’s college coaches want the USHR girls site to offer rosters, schedules, and results. They like having everything in one place. Bouncing from one school’s web site to another in search of information is simply too time-consuming. Hence schools get overlooked.

I really want this site to succeed. My 15-year-old plays girls hockey, and she looks over my shoulder to see if there is equal coverage being granted to boys and girls. Unfortunately, there isn’t. Part of that is financial. The boys’ site is a subscription site, and existed for years before the girls site was even created. Naturally, I have to make sure that people get what they pay for. The girls’ site costs nothing to read. It also costs nothing for the girls’ programs to upload their information. I was surprised this fall to learn that some coaches thought that their prep school would actually have to pay USHR to upload information. Rest assured, that is NOT the case. No schools – either boys or girls -- has to pay a single penny to upload their information.

The only person who has paid a penny toward this site is this typist, who has paid dollars, a whole lot of them. I don’t consider it money wasted, because this site will work. I just need help.

Starting today, I am opening up the USHR Girls site to parents of players. I am looking for volunteers from each school to upload their school’s roster, schedule, and results (let’s start with just the scores – if there are going to be full box scores, that will have to come from the coaches. Once we have all the teams’ schedules up, we can automatically create weekly composite schedules, something college coaches find very useful when planning their week. And once we have all the results up, we will have accurate standings. That will be a major plus. And if we have all the rosters up, we will know who is playing where, and what grade they are in.

That sounds like a lot, but it’s really not asking much. But if everyone gets on board, it will be a major start, and this site can begin to reach its potential. Some coaches are already posting everything, so their school is covered. If your school is not posting anything, please step forward and be the designated deliverer of information to USHR. We will provide you with a username/password enabling you to easily put up the info. It is a simple process. Kind of like ordering a book online – maybe easier, because choice plays no factor.

At any rate, if you are willing to help out, please send an email to information@ushr.com and tell us the name of the school you will be representing. We will send you a password as well as instructions on how to use it. If you have any questions, please call (617) 480-1755.

We are also looking for an intern (or two) to help cover as much of this as possible. We are looking for somebody who is highly organized, someone who can coordinate the girls prep coverage, see where info is missing, and be able to fill in the blanks. We’ve had good luck with USHR interns on the boys side – and remember, interns can be pretty much any age. Some people have done an internship with USHR just for the fun of it, others have done it because they are looking to break into the sports world. We don’t care what your motivation is, we simply need you. Again, please use the email address above to contact us.

Thank you.
