Wed. Feb. 13 Highlights
@ Westminster 4, Loomis 3 (OT) -- An Ethan Holdaway goal at 2:31 of OT gave the hosts their third straight win. Earlier, at 6:02 of the third, junior Mario Benicky tied the game at 3-3. Benicky (1g,1a), junior Tristan Rai (2a), and senior Ryan Mowery (2a) each had two points for Westy. Sophomore Stephen Marsico (1g,1a) had two points for Loomis. Westminster, now 13-6-2 in NEPSIHA play, outshot Loomis, 45-20.
Choate 5 @ Avon 3 – Avon led 1-0 on a first period goal from senior Armand Uomoleale, but the visiting Wild Boars roared back with four unanswered goals in the second period. Avon was able to cut it to 4-3 midway through the third but couldn’t get the equalizer. Choate senior Luke May (2g,1a) added an empty-netter late. Choate outshot Avon, 30-25. Soph Sam Tucker (22/25) got the win; soph Tucker Weppner (18/22 in 30 min.) took the loss. The loss, Avon’s third in a row, drops them to 11-8-3 in NEPSIHA games. #8 ranked Choate, coming off a loss to Pomfret, improves to 11-6-3.
@ Milton 4, Belmont Hill 2 – Senior Anthony Sabitsky broke a 2-2 tie, scoring the game winner at 11:24 of the third. Junior D Connor Wynne added an empty-netter in the waning seconds and Milton skated off with their second win of the season over #2-ranked Belmont Hill. Milton sophomore goaltender Drew Hotte came up with a strong performance, kicking out 31 of 33 to put a stop to Belmont Hill’s 9-game win streak, which began after a loss to Milton on Jan. 7. The Hillies are now 19-3-1 in NEPSIHA play. Their only other loss came to Brunswick on Dec. 29, at the Nichols-Belmont Hill Tournament. Milton improves to 12-8-2 in NEPSIHA play.
@ Cushing 4, Andover 0 – Sophomore goaltender Joey Daccord stopped all 39 shots he faced to lead the #9-ranked Penguins, who improve to 13-6-2 in NEPSIHA play. Andover outshot Cushing 39-33.
@ Berkshire 5, Pomfret 0 -- #1 Berkshire extended their unbeaten streak to 20 games behind a 17-save shutout from junior George Blinick and a natural hat trick in the second period by junior Nick O’Connor. Juniors Tipper Higgins (3a), Craig Puffer (1g,1a), and Charlie Corcoran (1g,1a) each had their usual productive game. Berkshire last lost on Dec. 5, at which time they dropped to 2-2 on the season. They have gone 17-0-3 since.
@ KUA 2, Proctor 1 – Senior Nick Roberto’s goal at 13:43 of the third period lifted #3 KUA to a 2-1 win over Proctor Academy. KUA outshot Proctor but had a hard time solving Harvard recruit Merrick Madsen (45/47). Senior Ryan Lund (12/13) got the win in the KUA net. KUA is now 20-2-0 in NEPSIHA play.
Groton 2 @ Brooks 1 – Groton junior goalie Matt Pompa came up huge, kicking out 43 of 44 shots, and junior D Joe Gentile scored the game winner with 20 seconds left in regulation to lead the Zebras to the upset win. Brooks outshot Groton 44-10.
Trinity-Pawling 6 @ Millbrook 4 -- After spotting their hosts an early 1-0 lead, T-P came back with three goals within three minutes -- and never looked back. Senior Andrew Zona had a pair of goals for T-P.
@ Tilton 8, Brewster 0 – Senior Blaise Healy (1g,3a) and PG Peyton Baldillez (2g,1a) led the Rams’ attack. PG goaltender Brenden McCain posted a 25-save shutout.
Governor’s 6 @ Lawrence 4 – Senior Lucas Bombardier (2g,2a) figured in four of the six Governor’s goals. For Lawrence, senior George Hunkele (3a) figured in three of their four goals. With the win, Gov’s moved a game above .500 in NEPSIHA play and are now 9-8-4.
Kent 4 @ Hotchkiss 1 -- #7-ranked Kent got goals from four different scorers and senior Charlie Fennell kicked out 15 of 16 to pick up the win. Kent improves to 13-5-3 in NEPSIHA play.
@ St. George’s 6, Roxbury Latin 3 – Junior Tim Doherty (1g, 3a) and senior Kristofer Shelton (1g,1a) led the Dragons’ attack.
Taft 5 @ Deerfield 3 – PG Henry Pierandri (1g,1a) and junior Andrew Gaus (1g,1a) led the Rhinos’ attack and senior goaltender Ryan Coon kicked out 25 of the 28 shots he faced for the win. With the loss, Deerfield drops to .500 in NEPSIHA play. Taft is one game under at 8-9-2.
@ Canterbury 8, Williston 0 – Soph Shane Sellar (2g,2a), PG Anthony Langevin (2g,2a), and senior Jeff Celniker (1g,3a) each had four points for the Saints. Junior Christian Short (29/29) posted the shutout. Canterbury outshot Williston, 54-29.
@ Dexter 5, Berwick 4 -- #5-ranked Dexter got a hat trick from junior Jake McDonough (3g,1a). Senior defenseman Charlie Donners (1g,2a) had a big game as well. Junior James Winkler had a goal and an assist for Berwick.
Rivers 2 @ St. Mark’s 0 -- Sophomore Ryan Colena had a shutout and sophs Hunter Dempsey and Joe Sacco scored the goals. Rivers improves to 14-5-2 on the season.
@ Middlesex 7, PA 0 – Junior Justin Ferreira (2g,2a) had a four-point afternoon and senior goaltender Derek Williams posted the shutout (16/16). Middlesex, now 12-5-4, outshot PA 43-16.
@ Holderness 2, Winchendon 1 -- Senior defenseman Phil Johansson’s second period goal stood up as the game winner. In net, John Musciano (29/30) took the win, while Winchendon senior Simon Jasmin (35/37) was the hard-luck loser.
Kents Hill 4 @ Bridgton 3 – Kents Hill, down 3-1 on the road, came back with three unanswered goals, the last a PPG from senior Marc Dufour at 16:19 of the third, to pick up the win.
@ St. Paul’s 5, St. Sebastian’s 4 – This was a 1-1 game after one, but host St. Paul’s exploded for four unanswered goals in the second period to take a 5-1 lead into the second intermission. But the game wasn’t over, as St. Sebastian’s came back with three in the third – the final an Alex Calabro goal with 1:01 on the clock to cut the SPS lead to 5-4. The Arrows, however, were unable to get the equalizer. Senior Nate Wark (2g,1a) had three points for St. Paul’s today. Sophomore defenseman Noah Hanifin had a pair of goals for the Arrows. St. Paul’s outshot St. Seb’s, 39-37. The Arrows fall to 13-9-1 in NEPSIHA play.
Exeter 3 @ NMH 0 -- #10-ranked Exeter got a 29-save shutout performance from sophomore Michael Lackey to improve to 12-6-5 on the season. PG Colby Cretella (1g,1a) and senior John Cross (1g,1a) each figured in two of the three Exeter goals. NMH sophomore goaltender Conor O'Brien kicked out 35 of the 38 shots he faced in a losing effort.
Nobles 6 @ BB&N 3 – Nobles senior D Tyler Wood, with the game tied at 2-2 midway through the second period, stuck for a pair of goals, one on the PP, to give the visitors a 4-2 lead going into the second intermission. Nobles extended the lead early in the third on a SHG from freshman Colin White and an even-strength goal from junior Cody Todesco.
@ Moses Brown 8, St. Thomas More 0 – Sophomore Colton King (2g,3a) led the way for the Quakers.
@ Salisbury 19, K-O 0 – Salisbury, which got five goals in the first, five in the second, and nine in the third, outshot Kingswood-Oxford 104-8.
