Sat. 1/21/12
Sat. Jan. 21 Highlights
Exeter 6, Hotchkiss 1 (at Brown): Post-grad Matt Beattie has been scoring with alarming regularity all season, and he did not disappoint against Hotchkiss, picking up four goals and an assist as Exeter coasted past Hotchkiss. Exeter senior Brian Hart – no slouch himself in the point-scoring department – added a goal and two assists. Exeter, now 14-1-1, will continue to be a tough matchup as long as those two stay healthy and productive.
@ Berkshire 3, Avon 1: Sophomore Charlie Corcoran broke a 1-1 tie at 7:37 of the third period and Berkshire picked up a huge 3-1 win over Avon. Berkshire senior Brendan McGovern (1g,1a) was the only player to record multiple points in the game. 6’7” Berkshire goalie Pat Feeley kicked out 25 of 26 Avon shots to pick up the win.
@ Belmont Hill 2, St. Paul’s 1: Senior Devin Albert scored with 7:32 remaining to push Belmont Hill past St. Paul’s at home. Belmont Hill carried the play, outshooting the visitors 43-16, but St. Paul’s junior goaltender Michael Pinios made 41 saves to keep his team in the game.
@ Northfield-Mt. Hermon 5, Lawrenceville 1: Senior forward Brandon Bete made sure that NMH would have no issues with Lawrenceville, scoring four goals in his team’s 5-1 victory.
Winchendon 4 @ Millbrook 3: Senior forward Michael Restuccia’s goal just 16 seconds into overtime gave Winchendon a 4-3 road win at Millbrook. Restuccia also assisted on all three of Winchendon’s goals during regulation, and junior goalie Simon Jasmin made 24 saves to earn the win in goal.
@ South Kent 5, Kents Hill 4: Kents Hill’s third period comeback came up one goal short and South Kent held on for a 5-4 victory. Senior forward Yannick Crete (2g,1a) paced the offense for South Kent, while Kents Hill junior defenseman Filip Akermark had three helpers for the visitors. South Kent carried the play, outshooting Kents Hill by a 48-18 margin.
@ Hebron 6, Tilton 4: Hebron juniors Kale Johnstone (2g, 1a), Guillaume Breton (1g,2a), Brandon Korytko (1g,2a) and Mike Kelly (3a) all had three points and Hebron beat Tilton 6-4. Seniors Kyle Larson and Anthony Flaherty each had two goals and an assist for Tilton in a losing effort.
Canterbury 6 @ Taft 2: Down 2-0 in the second period, Canterbury exploded for six unanswered goals and beat Taft 6-2. Junior Jeff Celinker (2g), sophomore Alex Nespor (2g,1a) and PG Nick Martell (3a) paced the Canterbury offense, and junior Austin Essery made 28 saves in goal to erase a 30-25 shot advantage for Taft.
@ Groton 3, Middlesex 2: Sophomore netminder Matt Pompa made 46 saves and senior forward Mike Doherty scored two unassisted goals as Groton upset Middlesex 3-2. Doherty’s second goal broke a 2-2 deadlock with only 2:40 left in the final period. Shots were 48-31 in favor of Middlesex.
@ St. Mark’s 4, Pingree 1: Junior forwards Nick Buly and Mike Pontarelli each figured in all four St. Mark’s goals as the Lions beat Pingree 4-1. Shots were 30 a side, but St. Mark’s sophomore Robert Labonte made 29 saves to earn the win.
@ Lawrence 6, Proctor 1: Last Saturday, following a Friday night Nobles-Lawrence game, Proctor pushed Nobles to the limit before falling 5-4. Perhaps aware of that, Lawrence made sure there was no letdown after their 3-3 tie with Nobles yesterday. Seniors Tyler Whitney (1g, 3a) and Devin Tringale (2g, 1a) led the way for the hosts.
@ Westminster 7, Loomis-Chaffee 2: Westminster got goals from seven different players in a 7-2 win over Loomis. Shots were 49-20 in favor of Westminster.
@ Choate 5, Deerfield 0: Freshman goalie Sam Tucker posted a 21-save shutout and Choate rolled over Deerfield 5-0. Senior forward Ben Foster paced the Boars offensively with two goals and two assists, and senior Bill Seligman and junior Alex Rauter pitched in with a goal and two assists each.
@ St. Sebastian’s 4, Governor’s 2: Senior forward Danny O’Regan scored twice as St. Sebastian’s beat Governor’s 4-2 at home. Freshman defenseman Noah Hanifin had two assists, and senior goaltender Gordon Donnelly picked up the win with 28 saves.
Brooks 3 @ Holderness 2: Senior Brendan McDonough made Holderness’ third period comeback a moot point as his overtime goal gave Brooks a 3-2 win. Brooks junior goalie Colin Langham turned aside 26 of 28 shots in the win.
Salisbury 1 @ Kent 0: Junior Justin Nichols shut out Kent on the road – and had to stone Kent on two penalty shots in the second period to do so. Salisbury scored the game’s only goal seven minutes into the third period, when senior Philip Zielonka scored, with assists going to junior Anthony DiFruscia and senior defenseman Marc Biega. Nichols kicked out all 32 shots he faced; Kent senior Kevin Dluhy stopped 24 of 25 in a losing effort.
BB&N 4, Rivers 3: Senior captain Matt Pugh (2g,1a) had three points to lead BB&N past Rivers. Sophomore goaltender Steve Grinsztein sticked out 22 of 25 shots to earn the win.
