Friday's Results Hurt Holderness
We have a quick update regarding what changed after Friday’s results. First off, Thayer, in OT, was upset by St. Sebastian’s, a team that going in had won just five games all season. That, combined with Trinity-Pawling’s upset of Brunswick, bounced Thayer out of the Top 16. Trinity-Pawling took its place.
And Holderness, despite beating Tilton in a Lakes Region semifinal last night is, because of the results of those two games, now out of the Elite 8. However, a win over KUA in the Lakes Region final later today would likely return the Bulls to the Elite 8. Their path, however, was made harder by the perfect storm of Friday's unexpected results.
With Thayer out, Holderness loses the (now-crucial) JSPR point they gained by beating Thayer earlier this season, at the St. Seb's Christmas Tournament. And that's the rub.
While all the other contenders held serve yesterday, there are still opportunities for havoc later today, all revolving around which team will be #16 in JSPR after all results are in. Back-of-the-envelope work on tomorrow's scenarios shows that Trinity-Pawling, Westminster, and Tilton all have a shot at becoming that 16th team, which could shuffle the Elite 8 deck yet again.
Nobles, #8 now, will want to be all-in for today's game vs. Milton (4:15 pm).
We'll have another update later this morning, after more forensic work.
