Lakes Region Looms Large
There is never a shortage of possibilities going into the final two days of the regular season. There's always an upset lurking around the corner. Here, though, are some basics.
-- The Top 16 is basically set. Even if Loomis beats Avon on Saturday, and Gunnery loses to Berkshire, it's likely Loomis will fall just short, RPI-wise, of entering the TUC list.
Perhaps when all the results are in, things could swing in Loomis's favor, but that appears to be a long shot. We're just not sure that there's enough RPI 'juice' left to swing things in the Pelicans' favor, as interesting as that would be.
-- The Lakes Region Tournament looks to be huge. If KUA and Holderness take care of business today, and meet each other in the final on Saturday, then one or the other has a shot at a spot in the Elite 8. On the other hand, if either team loses today, then it's a disaster for both. Quite simply, they need to play each other in order for either to have a decent shot at the Elite 8. Failing that, their chances would directly depend upon teams ahead of them losing.
-- Despite a loss to Gunn on Wednesday, Westminster can still get in -- if they win out. The Martlets have two games remaining: Deerfield today and Belmont Hill on Saturday. Both are home games.
-- A Dexter win over Belmont Hill today gets them within striking distance of the Elite 8, and, if Bel Hill also loses at Westminster tomorrow, quite possibly in. A face-plant or two by teams ahead of them could provide another route. And if they do get in, it will likely bounce Taft out of the Elite 8. So the Rhinos will definitely be rooting for Bel Hill.
