Nobles #1 in This Week's USHR Poll
From the start, Avon, Cushing, and Nobles have had a stranglehold at the top of this season's polls. Each is formidable, and you can throw a blanket over them.
We feel that there's a strong second tier that consists of Milton, KUA, Belmont Hill, and St. Mark's.
The #8-9-10 slots are a bit more malleable, with half a dozen teams fighting for the one slot that will put them in the Elite 8. This is where the fun comes in.
Two teams that figured in the Jan. 23rd poll have been drummed out.
Tabor, a solid team that has played a slew of tight, one-goal games and showed themselves to be a hang-in-there gang, had Lady Luck on its side early. Lately, less so: Since January 14th, the Seawolves are 1-4-2.
Taft bounced back a bit after losses to Westy, Loomis, and NMH. Since the last poll, the Rhinos are 3-1-0, having beat T-P and Gunn, and split with Kent. They need junior G Rudy Guimond to carry them.
Holderness has won five of six. The win over KUA was a big feather in their cap. The Bulls have had only two games vs. TUCs and have split them, losing to Cushing, but beating KUA. Future games against TUCs are few. They'll face KUA again on Saturday (Feb. 11), and Dexter (Feb. 22), plus they could get another shot at KUA in the Lakes Region Tournament.
Loomis is hanging around and has a chance to bust into the Elite 8. Since a loss to Deerfield on Jan. 11, they've gone 4-2-1. They have seven games left. Three of their future opponents are currently TUCs -- Salisbury, Westminster, and Avon. The Pelicans go into those games with a win over Westy, and a tie vs. Avon.
