Brunswick 3, Edge School 2 -- At the MacPherson Tournament at St. Andrew's College, Brunswick rebounded from two Friday tournament losses (to Victory Honda U-18 and St. Andrew's) with a last-minute victory over the Edge School, of Calgary. Senior Eli Friedman broke the 2-2 deadlock with 13.5 seconds left. Junior Ryan Wachtel scored for the Bruins in the second and classmate Brendan Giles early in the third. Loomis Chaffee 3 @ Andover 1 -- After a scoreless first, Loomis erupted for three goals in the second. Senior Will Reardon scored the first on a breakaway. Aidan Healy, the Pelican captain, scored the next two -- both on 2-on-0 rushes, the latter shorthanded. Andover finally got on the board, with 1:56 left in the game, on junior Drew Smith's goal. Loomis senior G Andrew Heinze (27/28) had another strong outing. Andover junior Ben Skowronek (32/35) took the loss. Loomis (10-4-3) has now won four of six.
@ Brooks 3, Governor's 2 -- Senior Will Rassier's hat trick single-handedly -- or just about single-handedly, anyways -- lifted Brooks to its first win in three games. The Princeton, NJ native scored twice in the second and again in the third to give his team all the scoring it needed. Governor's got both of its goals in the third, from junior Cam Russo and sophomore Ian Crowley.
Westminster 3 @ Kent 1 -- Junior Matteo De Luca kicked out 24 of 25 Kent shots, outdueling Lions' senior Harrison Fogel (23/25) en route to the win. Kent sophomore Jacob Ingstrup scored his team's only goal in the second. Earlier, the Martlets had taken a 1-0 lead in the first when sophomore Blake Burke assisted junior Ryan Shaw's goal. In the final minute of the second, Shaw returned the favor, assisting Burke's game-winner. An empty-netter sealed the deal in the third. Kent drops to 10-6-2 with the loss, while Westy jumps to 8-6-0 with the win.
Avon Old Farms 4 @ Choate 1 -- Each member of the vaunted Connor-Gollob-Odyniec line -- they've scored 34 of the Winged Beavers' 70 goals thus far -- scored as Avon cruised to a road win in Wallingford. AOF junior d-man Blake Jones added a powerplay goal in the third. Choate's only goal was Evan Partridge's, 17 seconds into the second.
@ Cushing 4, Exeter 0 -- Ho hum. Another shutout for Cushing senior Cooper Rautenstrauch (18/18) and another multi-point game for junior Landan Resendes (2g), his 11th such performance this year. Junior AJ Sacco and PG Jack Costanzo scored the others for the Penguins, who are unbeaten in three games since losing to Thayer. Exeter senior goalie Michael Salvatore was 39/43.
Académie Saint-Louis 2 @ Austin Prep 1 -- Junior Thomas Fabbo's first period goal was all the host Cougars got. Alex Dubé's second period game-winner and Tristan Bourassa's 25-of-26 performance in net were enough for the visitors from north of the border.
@ Rivers 4, Middlesex 1 -- Middlesex sophomore Owen Crann scored 11 seconds into the game and the Zebras took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but the hosts scored four unanswered goals across the second and third, and won handily. Each Red Wing goal came off the stick of a different skater. Junior Jason Delehoy (16/17) was the winner in net. Sophomore Caio Bernandini (21/24) took the loss.
Dexter 2 @ Lawrence Academy 1 -- Dexter senior goalie Paul Dalessio watched teammate Max Gatti's 15-save shutout in Wednesday's 2-0 win over St. George's, and raised him a 19-save shutout in Saturday's blanking of Lawrence, by the same score. Freshman Jake Assad's second-period score was the only goal of the game Dexter needed, but senior Brayden Naumann sealed it with an empty-netter with 1:26 left. Having knocked off Tabor in OT Friday, the Spartans (6-6-2) fall back to .500. Dexter, meanwhile, is 9-5-7.
@ Portsmouth Abbey 3, North Yarmouth Academy 2 -- Senior Michael Patko's goal in the final minute of the second stood up as the game-winner as The Abbey extended its unbeaten streak to seven games. NYA, not surprisingly after a three-hour bus ride south, didn't get on the board until junior Nick Pelletier's powerplay goal in the second. Junior goalie Patrick McDevitt (31/33) was the winner. Senior Aidan Farion (38/41) took the hard-luck loss. NYA has now lost back-to-back games after its 10-game undefeated streak.
@ Brewster 6, Pingree 5 -- After the teams combined for seven goals in the first, and four more in the second, it was Brewster that took a one-goal lead into the third. There, the game's offense evaporated; nobody scored again, and the Bobcats (5-12-1) held on. Seniors Doyle Coughlin (2g,2a) and James Evans (1g,2a) led the way for the victors. Ryan Kavanagh logged a helper on four of the five Pingree goals..
Holderness 4 @ Kents Hill 1 -- Holderness senior goalie Evan Plunkett posted a 20-save shutout as the Bulls bounced back from Friday night's 4-1 loss to New Hampton, beating Kents Hill by the same score. Sophomore Will Rob (2g,1a) led the way for Holderness.
@ Taft 5, Trinity-Pawling 4 -- Taft freshman Carson Lowry's game-winning goal with 19 seconds remaining in regulation saved Taft from a possible fourth loss in five games. Minutes earlier, T-P sophomore Liam Lefebvre had tied the game 4-4. Patrick Hentemann's three helpers led Taft, while Ryan Drust (1g,2a) led the way for the Pride. It was another less-than-perfect night for Rhinos' junior goalie Rudy Guimond (31/35), but he did just enough to earn the win. T-P's Gavin Geraghty, a sophomore, was 27/32.
@ Northfield Mount Hermon 4, Millbrook 1 -- Millbrook senior Nolan Cadieux scored three minutes into the game to give his team a 1-0 lead to take into the first intermission, but the host Hoggers scored four unanswered goals across the second and third, and won handily. Liam Martin and Alex Ondos each had a goal and an assist to pace the Hoggers. Junior Tommy Adams (20/21) was the winner in net. Junior Tyler Spokane (29/32) took the loss.
@ Canterbury 5, Pomfret 4 -- In a back-and-forth game, it was Canterbury junior Ryan Stratton who scored last. And second-to-last, for that matter -- he tied the game with 8:04 left and potted the game-winner with 2:25 remaining, the second and third legs of his hat trick. Brooks Pearce (1g,1a) and Hudson Loh (1g,1a) paced the Griffins. Canterbury goalie Mitch Stenger, a junior, was 22/26 in net. Pomfret junior Zach Bloxam (32/37) took the loss.
@ Nobles 4. St. Sebastian's 3 -- In a battle between Keller Division rivals two miles apart from each other, the Arrows got into an early hole, finding themselves down, 3-1, going into the first intermission. But they didn't pack it in, coming out hard in the second, winning the period and cutting Nobles' lead to one entering the third. However, they were unable to further narrow the gap despite fighting every inch of the way, pressuring Nobles and forcing them to defend hard as the final seconds wound down with the Arrows skating 6x4. This was a hard-fought, physical, up-and-down battle between two good teams.
Salisbury 5 @ Berkshire 0 -- PG goalie Matt Alberti's 27-save shutout and senior Quinn McCall's two-goal performance led Salisbury to a rout of the Bears. Berkshire's Danick Leroux (36/41) took the loss. Salisbury, it appears, has turned it around: they're 3-1-1 over their last five games. They're 10-6-3 overall.
@ Deerfield 2, Hotchkiss 1 -- In the second and final game of Deerfield Hockey's 100th Anniversary celebration, the dozens of former players and families in attendance were treated to a good, old-fashioned goaltenders' duel. Through two periods, Deerfield junior John Tolve and Hotchkiss senior Grant Kloeber kept their opponents off the board. Finally, the Big Green cracked Kloeber (28/30) twice in the first 10-plus minutes of the third, junior Conor Moriarty finding the back of the net first, and sophomore Justin Tavares after. Tolve saved the first 27 shots he faced, but not the last -- a 6x4 goal by Michael Gallary with three seconds left. Still, Deerfield held on for its second straight win, advancing to 8-7-2 on the season. Hotchkiss, meanwhile, is winless (0-4-1) in five games since beating Avon in OT on Jan. 11.
Milton 6, St. George's 2 -- At the Hockey Night in the 'Burg fundraiser for Jake Thibeault at Fitchburg State, Milton jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Dragons cracked the scoreboard with under six minutes to go in the second. Seniors Jacob Pohl (2g,1a) and Henry Cohen (1g,1a) led the way. Junior Tate Pecknold scored both St. George's goals. Milton's #1 goalie, sophomore Sam Caulfield, had the night off, so senior Harrison Brown (22/23) and junior Jonah Nash (7/8) played instead, and picked up the win.
@ Belmont Hill 4, St. Paul's 2 -- Seniors Josh Doolan (2g) and Brock Cummings (1g,1a) led the attack as Bel Hill earned its fifth win in six games (5-0-1). Freshman goaltender JJ Thibodeau stopped 14 of 16 to pick up the W. For SPS, freshman G Blake Truchon (42/46) was the hard-luck loser (he's had a few of those). Offensively for St. Paul's, Ryan Doherty, a senior, led the way with a goal and a helper.
