All Rise! Judge Hat Trick Sinks Taft

Westminster 6 @ Taft 2
-- Junior Brian Judge notched a hat trick, and his linemates -- junior Ryan Shaw (1g,3a) and sophomore wing Blake Burke (1g,2a) -- also had huge days, as Westy had its way with host Taft.

Going into the game, the storyline was whether Taft junior goaltender Rudy Guimond, a Yale commit from Kirkland, Quebec who knocked off Avon, 3-2, with a spectacular 55-save performance on Saturday, could come up with another gem.

He couldn't, stopping 20 of 25 shots before being relieved midway through the third. At the other end, Westy junior Matteo De Luca, a Montreal native, was excellent, stopping 33 of the 35 shots he saw.

Although Taft drew first blood, on a Zave Greene rebound goal midway through the first period, the Martlets, energized from the get-go, held the edge in play. Four minutes later, Judge evened it up at 1-1 on a wrister from the top of the left faceoff circle.

Early in the second, with Rhinos center JJ Lemieux in the box, Judge scored again, as a Blake Burke shot from the right faceoff circle rebounded directly to Judge at the left faceoff circle. With a yawning net facing him, Judge didn't miss, putting Westy up 2-1 at the 1:39 mark, and giving them the lead for good.

With 4:55 left in the period, Martlets junior center Michael Bianco added to the lead, beating Guimond with another long wrister to make it 3-1 for the visitors. Taft senior winger Jackson Holl scored a rebound goal with 22 seconds in the frame, making it a one-goal game and giving Taft a glimmer of hope to open the third.

But nothing came of it, as Ryan Shaw, after Taft had trouble clearing the zone, banged home a rebound goal 1:22 into the final period. Several minutes later, Judge completed his hat trick, chasing Guimond.

The Martlets, who went 0-4 at the Flood-Marr, are a young team, with 14 new players this season. Now 5-4-0 on the season, today might be pointed to as a turning point should they find further success. Taft, now 7-3-0, came up short in all facets of the game today, but, as they showed against Avon, they can beat anybody, especially when their goalie is on his game.

Taft will look to bounce back when they host Choate on Saturday. Westminster will attempt to make it three in a row when they host Salisbury on Saturday.

@ Governor's 4, Exeter 1 -- Senior Jack Farrell's powerplay goal at the game's midpoint gave Gov's a 1-0 lead before outscoring Exeter 3-1 in the third and cruising to victory. Senior goalie Max LaCroix stopped 21 of 22 shots in the win.

Worcester Academy 4 @ Williston 2 -- In a game that featured 11 minor penalties, WA junior Connor Dozois notched a hat trick en route to Worcester's third win of the season. Seniors Perry Gaudreau and Felix-Antoine Bouchard scored for Williston. PG Brandon Prior (41/43) earned the win.

Cushing 3 @ Salisbury 2 (OT) -- Senior Linas Dedinas notched the OT winner at 2:34 of the extra frame to keep Cushing undefeated at 10-0-3. Salisbury juniors Jesse Allecia and Nicolas Petrut scored to build a 2-0 lead in the first, but Cushing PG Jack Constanzo tied the game with goals in the second and third, the equalizer coming 6x5 with 13 seconds left in regulation. Cushing senior goalie Cooper Rautenstrauch (25/27) got the win. Salisbury PG Matt Alberti (35/38) took the loss.

North Yarmouth 3 @ Pingree 3 (OT) -- Pingree struck twice in the final period to tie the game on goals by sophomore Max Trudel and junior Ryan Kavanagh. Earlier, in the first period, NYA junior Grey Perham had scored twice in a span of three minutes, and senior Tanner Anctil scored with a second left to put the Panthers up 3-1 heading to the first intermission.

@ Deerfield 4, Loomis Chaffee 1 -- Loomis started sophomore Liam Joyce in net for the second time this season, but lifted him for regular starter Andrew Heinze when Deerfield went up 2-0 in the second. Junior Ben Cook (1g, 1a) and sophomore Zachary Chehade (1g, 1a) paced the Big Green. Junior John Tolve went 26/27 and earned the win.

@ Hotchkiss 4, Avon Old Farms 3 (OT) -- Senior Shane Bjorn's powerplay goal with 55 seconds left in overtime capped Hotchkiss' furious comeback to hand top-ranked Avon its second loss in as many games. Trailing 3-1 after the first, and the same after the second, junior Brennan Cail potted his second goal of the night with 3:31 left in regulation. Then Hotchkiss emptied its net and tied the game on Michael Gallary's goal with 33 seconds left in the third. The Bearcats killed an overtime penalty before sealing the win. In goal, Grant Kloeber recovered from a bad start and finished 36/39 in the win. Avon's Stephen Peck was 28/32.

Brunswick 4 @ Millbrook 2 -- Senior goalie Brendan Holahan stopped 22 of 24 Millbrook shots and Harvard commit Drew DellaSalla scored twice to lead Brunswick to the road win. Mustangs junior Tyler Spokane (34/37) took the tough loss.

@ St. Mark's 4, Roxbury Latin 1 -- Senior goalie Charles Watson kicked out 17 of 18 and junior D Calvin Beard, a Southborough native, notched a goal and assist as the Lions downed Roxbury Latin, which remains winless at 0-8-1. St. Mark's had already built a 4-0 advantage by the time junior Jake Novak scored Latin's lone goal in the second.

@ Groton 5, Hebron 1 -- Junior forward Allen Fang scored two of the Zebras' five goals and freshman defenseman Alejandro Hassan assisted on three. Ethan Ramonetti got the win after kicking out 27 of 28. Hebron's only score of the game came from junior Chase Aldridge in the second.

@ Noble and Greenough 4, Lawrence Academy 3 (OT) -- Senior Brian Grant's 4x4 goal 46 seconds into overtime lifted Nobles to its eighth straight win and 11th in 13 games. Trailing 3-2 in the final minute, the Bulldogs emptied their net and tied the game on senior Austin Tasca's goal with 42 seconds left in regulation. Sophomore netminder Thatcher Bernstein saved 23 of 26 for Nobles, and senior Luc Gagnon stopped 27 of 31 for LA.

Canterbury 6 @ Choate 3 -- After a back-and-forth start, Canterbury, playing on the road and trailing 3-2, rattled off four unanswered goals spanning the second and third periods to win handily. Senior forward Jed Brazo (2g,2a) led the Saints' attack. Jake Kloss's powerplay goal in the second stood up as the game-winner. Primo Baldassarre went 24/29 in net for Choate. Junior Mitch Stenger and sophomore Sean Dunn combined to save 37 of the 40 shots for the win.

St. George's 2 @ Brooks 1 -- Sophomore Danny Buckley's second goal of the game, a 4x3 goal in the third, broke a 1-1 tie and hoisted the Dragons to a come-from-behind ISL road win and a 9-3-0 record. His first goal had tied the game in the first, 38 seconds after senior Will Rassier gave Brooks a 1-0 lead.

@ Kimball Union 4, Vermont Academy 2 -- Despite being outshot, 68-16, Vermont Academy hung around, drawing within a goal of KUA on junior Ivan Miasoedenkov's third-period tally. But KUA junior Jack Sadowski iced the game, scoring with 44 seconds left to clinch the win. VA's junior goalie, Owen Willgos, saved 64 of 68 shots, while his KUA counterpart, junior Colby Boyce, saved 14 of 16.
