Worcester, Mass. -- Vermont Academy sophomore Kristyna Kaltounkova scored a spectacular overtime goal -- a toe-drag, bar-down snipe -- off a pass from PG Chloe Aurard, who had a hat trick, to stun host Worcester Academy, 4-3, and keep Vermont Academy on track for the #1 seed in their quest to win a D-II championship. ... read more

Div. II Projections

Addressing an Oversight

We hesitate to complain, because any positive coverage for women's hockey is welcomed, and today there has obviously been a ton of it, but the Boston Globe article this morning -- "More than half of the US women’s Olympic hockey team has Mass. connections" -- only deals with college and womens' pro league connections. Nothing further back. ... read more

Rivers’ Gazard Stymies Worcester

In a battle of two Div. II heavyweights, #1-ranked Rivers defeated #4-ranked Worcester Academy, 4-2, yesterday behind some terrific goaltending from senior goalie Meagan Gazard and two goals from Middlebury commit Jenna Letterie. To be honest, we thought Worcester was the better team most of the night and seemed to control the majority of the play, but Rivers stuck to its game plan and was more opportunistic in taking advantage of their grade A scoring opportunities. ... read more

Div. II Projected Playoff Seedings, Feb. 13th

With less than two weeks to go in the season, the DII playoff field is starting to take shape. As it stands right now, barring any major upsets, it seems that the four home ice slots for the first round will likely be Rivers, Vermont Academy, Brooks and Worcester Academy. The ranking and the opponents are still very much up in the air. At this point, there looks to be six teams in contention for the final four slots. ... read more

Andover Win Streak Halted

Andover, Mass. -- Junior Olivia O’Brien and senior Olivia Finocchiaro each scored a goal within the first 20 seconds of the second period to lead the Tabor Seawolves to a 2-1 road win, though they had to hold on for dear life in the third period as the Big Blue of Philips Andover gave it all they had in an effort to extend their six-game win streak. They fell short, so this might not offer the Andover girls much consolation, but they got to play in one of the most exciting, fast-paced, well-coached girls prep school hockey games we have seen all season. ... read more
