Sat. Feb. 15 Highlights
North Andover, Mass. – A goal by PG Robert Devaney – his second of the game -- with a minute left in regulation lifted a surging Andover team to a 3-2 win over host Brooks today.
In an entertaining back-and-forth game, Brooks held a 2-1 lead until late in the third, but Andover kept the pressure on and got the tying goal from senior Michael Lata with 3:31 to play, followed shortly thereafter by Devaney’s game winner.
Early on, both teams had stretches during which they carried the play. Andover’s top line of Tommy Bishop, Lata, and Devaney was particularly good.
Brooks got on the board first, when sophomore D Connor Moore beat two Andover players and fed sophomore forward Henry Cormier on the back door for a tap-in at 10:15 of the first. Andover came back to tie the game a little over a minute later when Devaney finished off a nice passing sequence, beating Brooks junior goalie Max Prawdzik low to the blocker side. Lata, and senior D Michael Kim picked up assists on the play.
In the second period both teams had solid chances but both goalies, Prawdzik and Andover junior Erik Wurman, came up with big saves. Brooks took a 2-1 lead on a nice breakaway move, as senior defenseman Zach St. Pierre stepped up and stole the puck at the Brooks blue line and fed sophomore forward Paul Capozzi, who tucked it through Wurman’s five-hole.
A boarding penalty assessed to Brooks with just eight seconds left in the second carried over to the third, but Brooks dug deep and killed it off – Prawdzik came up with some nice saves on point-blank rebounds. Even after Brooks killed off the penalty, Andover kept coming hard, transitioning well, forechecking hard, keeping pucks in the Brooks end, and keeping plays alive. Late in the third, Lata walked into the low left faceoff circle and roofed one short side past Prawdzik’s glove to tie the game at 2-2. On the next shift, Wurman came up big for Andover as Brooks junior forward Matt Serrao blocked a shot at the point and took off on a breakaway. Faking right, and shooting back low across the grain, Serrao’s shot was denied by Wurman, who got a pad on it to tip it wide of the post. Shortly after, Andover got the game-winner when Brooks turned the puck over in their end and Devaney finished off a nice rush. Brooks had a couple of chances with Prawdzik pulled for the extra attacker in the final minute of play, but Andover made it tough to penetrate the zone, got a couple of clears, and ran out the clock.
This was a good effort for both teams. For Brooks, the loss snapped a three-game winning streak, while Andover won its fourth in a row and is now 7-1-3 over their last 11 games as they make a late-season push.
@ Northfield-Mt. Hermon 5, Loomis-Chaffee 3 – Senior Brandon Palacio (2g), PG Matt Greenwood (1g,1a), and sophomore d-man Jamie Dorsey (1g,1a) each had two points for the #10-ranked Hoggers, who are 6-1-1 over their last eight games. Loomis has lost three in a row since edging Kent 5-4 a week ago.

Avon, which has lost six in a row – and nine of ten – got a pair of goals from sophomore Tyler Carangelo.
@ Exeter 4, Deerfield 2 – A Henry Hart PPG at 15:52 of the second period broke open a 2-2 tie and sent #3-ranked Exeter, which has won seven of its last eight, on to victory. Exeter got goals from four different scorers while Deerfield got both of its goals, one a shorty, from senior Trevor Yates. Sophomore D Trevor Cosgrove had a goal and an assist for Exeter.
Brunswick 7, Kents Hill 2 – In a game played at Colby College, Brunswick freshman Christian LeSueur notched two goals and added an assist to lead his team to the win. Senior F Sebbi Foster (2g), senior D Mark Esposito (1g,1a), and sophs Matt Sealy (1g,1a) and Colin Slyne (1g,1a) each had two-point days. Junior G Matteo Esposito (28/30) got the win in net.
@ Tilton 5, Hebron 0 – Junior Justin Robertson scored a pair of goals to lead the Rams.
Millbrook 9 @ Kingswood-Oxford 2 – Seniors Brett Supinski (2g,1a) and Aidan Parker (1g,2a), and juniors Brett Barry (2g,1a) and John Buckley (1g,2a) each had three points for Millbrook. Freshman Chris Adamsons had both K-O goals.

Junior d-men Mike Lee (3a) and Max Luukko (2a) added offense from the back end. Senior goalie Matthew Schneider posted a 17-save shutout while his teammates put 51 shots on the Albany Academy net. #5-ranked Gunnery has won 12 of 13, its only loss in that span being an OT loss to Salisbury.
Hotchkiss 2 @ Trinity-Pawling 0 – The Bearcats got goals from senior F Sam Rice in the second, and junior D Evan Korizis. Sophomore goaltender Kyle St. Denis posted a 23-save shutout.
Groton 7 @ St. George’s 2 – Junior Ace Cowans had two goals and an assist, and senior goaltender Matt Pompa kicked out 27 of 29 shots to earn the win. Groton is 5-1-1 over its last seven games.
@ Kent 8, Canterbury 2 – The Saints’ eight game undefeated streak (7-0-1) came to a crashing end against #1-ranked Kent. Senior Phil Klitirinos (2g,2a) had four points, while seniors Mitchell Allen (2g,1a) and Lewis Zerter-Gossage (1g,2a) and sophomore Satchel Clendenin (3 assists, but extra credit for a great name) made big contributions. Kent outshot Canterbury 41-25.

A Short Break
A number of prep coaches -- and this is something we greatly appreciate here at USHR -- enter their line scores and/or box scores themselves. Some don't, however, and because of that we rely on a great volunteer who, for years now, has been seeking out and filling in all the missing scores -- a true labor of love.
Alas, he needs a break, and will be off duty until Sunday, at which time he will fill in the blanks and bring things up to date. In the meantime, we offer in advance our thanks to any coaches who enter their own scores.
And we thank our readers for their patience.

Snowday
It doesn't look good for Wednesday's slate of games, as the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for pretty much all of New England.
Across Massachusetts, up to 10 inches of snow is expected.
If coaches could email information(at)ushr.com and let us know if your game has been canceled or postponed, we'd be grateful. If the latter, please let us know if you have a makeup date. We have some changes already, and they can be found in the prep composite schedule below.
By the way, the Weather Channel is calling this one Nika, which they are claiming is named for the Greek goddess of victory. When this typist was in middle school, the Greek goddess of victory was Nike -- with an e -- and still is, though perhaps that name was subsequently trademarked by the sneaker guys, assuming one can even trademark a Greek goddess. More likely, the Weather Channel didn't want people to think they were naming storms after sneakers. We can understand that. However, Nika, as in the name of the impending storm, is the ancient Greek word for conquer or victory, which seems like a foreboding name for a winter storm.
