Wed. Feb. 20 Highlights
Westminster 7 @ Gunnery 4 – Westy PG Ethan Holdaway scored a natural hat trick in the second period and added a fourth goal – an empty-netter – with 1:07 left in regulation. Westminster got a big game from junior G Zac Hamilton (39/43). For Gunnery, senior Dawson Sprigings (19/25) took the loss. Westy, after suffering through a five-game winless streak (0-5-1) in late January, has now gone 6-0 thus far in February, and, with a 16-6-2 record, have forced their way right back into the Elite 8 picture with three consecutive wins over Berkshire, Choate, and now Gunnery. Gunnery, 20-3-4 , saw their five-game winning streak snapped. Westy has one game left (vs. Deerfield Sat.); Gunnery has one game left (@ Berkshire Sat.)

@ Loomis 5, Choate 1 – Junior Cory Swift scored two goals and senior goaltender Danny Tirone stopped 31 of 32 shots to lead host Loomis to a big win over the Wild Boars, who have stumbled, losing two games in the last two days (they lost to Westy yesterday). Loomis outshot Choate, 52-32. Wild Boars soph goaltender Andrew Tucci had 47 saves in a losing cause. Choate is now 13-8-3, with one game left, a home tilt Sat. vs.Kent. Loomis improves to 13-10-1.

@ Kent 7, Deerfield 3 – Junior James Ricciardi scored a natural hat trick as host Kent exploded for five first period goals to take a 5-1 lead into the first intermission. Deerfield cut it to 5-3 in the third, but that was as close as they would get as Kent salted it away with a late empty-netter. Senior Charlie Fennell (27/30) picked up the win as Kent improves to 15-6-3 with one game left (@ Choate on Sat.). Deerfield falls to 11-10-2 with one game left (@ Westy on Sat.).

Berkshire 4 @ Millbrook 3 – Berkshire, trailing 3-2 early in the third, got goals from juniors Adam Tracey and Tipper Higgins (ppg) to pull it out. Junior Brett Supinski (2g,1a) figured in all three Millbrook goals. The Bears went 3-for-4 on the PP. Berkshire improves to 21-3-3; Millbrook falls to .500 at 9-9-4.

Taft 4 @ Trinity-Pawling 3 (OT) – Junior Andrew Gaus won it in OT for the Rhinos. Earlier, with 3:32 left in regulation, T-P junior Charlie Zuccarini had forced OT by tying things up at 3-3. Taft sophomore goaltender Joseph Lissak (33/36) got the win for Taft; soph Felix Marcotte-Hetu (30/34) took the loss for T-P.

@ Belmont Hill 2, St. Paul’s 1 (OT) – Sophomore Charlie McConnell scored at 1:15 of OT to lift host Belmont Hill to a big win. Earlier, Bel Hill junior Mike Najjar had scored at 12:32 of the third to allow the hosts just to get to OT. Bel Hill improves to 22-3-1.

@ Dexter 6, Holderness 0 – Dexter rolls along, improving to 20-1-5, with a 6-0 home shutout of Holderness. Junior Mark Webber scored two goals for Dexter.

@ Salisbury 3, Hotchkiss 2 – After PG Matt Pugh scored a PPG midway through the third to put the hosts up 3-1, Hotchkiss was able to answer, cutting the lead to 3-2 on a goal by senior D Ryan Begoon with 1:02 in regulation. Hotchkiss, however, was unable to get the equalizer. Salisbury improves to 17-5-3. They have an eight-game unbeaten streak going, and finish at home Sat. afternoon vs. Canterbury.

Brooks 4 @ Rivers 3 – Brooks got goals from four different scorers. Rivers made things interesting late, when soph Joe Sacco scored with the goalie pulled and 19 seconds on the clock. That was as close as Rivers would get, though. Rivers falls to 16-8-2. Brooks, now 12-7-5, has two games left, both at home (vs. St. George’s and BB&N). The game vs. George’s, which is tomorrow, Thursday 2/21, at 7:15 pm ( immediately following the girls’ game) is Pink the Rink Night, with all game proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Cushing 4 @ New Hampton 0 -- Freshman forward Cam Askew scored a pair of goals and sophomore goalie Joey Daccord stopped all 16 shots he faced as Cushing improved to 15-7-4 in NEPSIHA play.

Nobles 5 @ Governor’s 4 – Junior F Cody Todesco scored a hat trick – one goal in each period – to lead Nobles to the win. With the loss, Gov’s drops to .500 at 9-9-5 (with one game remaining, vs. Berwick on Friday).

 6. Cushing
 7. BB&N

  5. Greenwich
  6. Rivers
  7. Middlesex
  8. Millbrook
