-- There is a complex three-way tie at the #12 spot. It breaks down like this:
Westminster wins the JSPR comparison over Canterbury; Canterbury wins JSPR comparison over Loomis; and  Loomis wins JSPR comparison over Westminster. That still leaves a three-way tie, so a tiebreaker is in order. For that, the RPI is utilized, and  Westminster (#10 in RPI) gets the nod over Loomis (#12 in RPI) and Canterbury (#16 in RPI).

Notes:

You may have noticed KUA's drop in RPI. This is happening because, while the Wildcats have a great winning percentage, their opponents’ winning percentage and opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage is not as stellar. KUA has only played four games against top 16 teams. Thus, their second loss of the season – in OT to Andover on Wednesday – plummeted them from first to fourth. 

You may have also noticed that Choate, while 14th in RPI, is 8th in the JSPR Rankings. This is due to the Wild Boars’ strong 3-1-3 record against teams under consideration. Many of their losses have come against teams out of the Top 16 – even way out, like Pomfret. However, that strong record against the iron of prep hockey will help then going forward, assuming they get back on track after Wednesday’s loss. They do have four games against Top 16 teams remaining (Westminster, Avon, Loomis, and Kent) so things could change quite quickly for them.

There are three small schools currently in the Top 16, but all of them are currently in the top 8 in both RPI and JSPR (Gunnery, KUA, and Dexter)

After two years of it being the opposite, this time around the West has more teams in the Top 16 than the East (10 vs. 6). That includes six Founders’ League teams.

There seems to be a big break in the RPI between the top four teams and the rest.  This probably means that #1-4 are looking solid for the Elite 8 Tournament whether or not they gain home ice for the quarterfinals.  Belmont Hill seems to have the easiest schedule going forward, with no games remaining against top 16 teams.  KUA has one game against a top 16 team (Cushing). Berkshire plays Westminster and Gunnery. And Gunnery plays Loomis, Westminster, and Berkshire.  

Loomis has the toughest remaining schedule. Five of their final six games are against top 16 teams (Gunnery, Salisbury, Avon, Choate, and Westminster).  If they make it into the top 16 -- and either one of the tournaments -- they will certainly have earned it.
