Wed. Feb. 6 Highlights
@ Andover 4, Kimball Union 3 (OT) – In the upset of the day – the season, really – host Andover got a goal 28 seconds into OT from senior Eddie Ellis to hand #1-ranked KUA its second loss of the season. KUA had leads of 2-0 and 3-1, but Andover just wouldn’t go away. At 7:59 of the third PG Conal Lynch make it a one-goal game, with an assist from senior Austin Heffner. At 14:04, Lynch struck again, tying the game at 3-3, Heffner assisting again, along with senior Seamus O’Neil (1g,1a). Senior Ross Bendetson (35/38) got the win for Andover; Eric Bogart (25/29) took the loss for the Wildcats. Kimball Union, now 19-2-0 in NEPSIHA play, had not lost since Dec. 15, when they bowed 2-1 to Nobles in Day 2 action at the Flood-Marr. Andover improves to 7-11-2.
Berkshire 1 @ Kent 0 – A first period goal by junior Jake Sontag held up in a battle of heavyweights. Goaltending was the story today. Berkshire senior Tim Ernst stopped all 20 shots he faced. Kent senior Charlie Fennell (23/24) was the hard-luck loser. #2-ranked Berkshire, 17-2-3, extends their unbeaten streak to 18. #6-ranked Kent, with their second consecutive loss, drops to 11-5-3.
Pomfret 6 @ Choate 3 – Pomfret senior goaltender Alex Joyce stopped 40 shots to upset his former team, coming out on top of a 6-3 decision on the road. For Pomfret, senior Luke Rivera was the big gun, notching four goals, the final one an empty-netter. The win gives Pomfret their third of the year, while #9-ranked Choate drops to 10-6-3. Pomfret led 3-0 after one. Choate cut it to 3-2 midway through the second, but Pomfret scored three of the next four goals to return home with a win to remember.
@ Gunnery 3, Avon 0 – #4-ranked Gunnery got goals from three different scorers and senior Dawson Sprigings came up with a big shutout. Avon, ranked #7, outshot Gunnery, 27-26. Gunnery improves to 18-2-4 on the season. Avon drops to 11-6-3.
Salisbury 2 @ Taft 1—The Smith twins -- Mitchell and Evan – combined forces on both of #8-ranked Salisbury’s goals today. Taft senior Henry Pierandri scored with 1:05 left in regulation to make it a one-goal game, but the Rhinos couldn’t get the equalizer. In net, Salisbury sophomore Callum Booth (28/29) and Taft senior Ryan Coon (24/26) had strong games. With the win, Salisbury improves to 12-5-2 in NEPSIHA play. Four of the their last five wins have been 2-1 decisions. Thus far on the season, the #8-ranked Crimson Knights have played eight games in which they have scored only two goals, and another four in which they have scored only three. They haven’t played in many laughers: 11 of their games have been ties or one-goal decisions (either way).
@ Belmont Hill 4, St. Sebastian’s 1 – A second period goal by junior D Danny Kelly was the difference for Bel Hill today, breaking a 1-1 tie. The hosts added a pair of empty-netters in the final couple of minutes of play. Ranked #3, the Hillies are now 19-2-1 in NEPSIHA play, and winners of nine straight. The Arrows drop to 12-8-1.
@ Canterbury 4, Trinity-Pawling 3 – PG Anthony Langevin gave Canterbury a 4-2 lead midway through the third. T-P came back and made things interesting on a RJ Bishop goal with a little over six minutes remaining in regulation, but couldn’t get the equalizer. Saints senior goalie Austin Essery kicked out 28 shots for the win.
Middlesex 8 @ Roxbury Latin 1 – Senior AJ Lucchese and junior Justin Ferreira each had hat tricks, and senior Chris Jellison had two goals. With the win, Middlesex improves to 10-5-3 on the season.
@ Moses Brown 4, Worcester Academy 1 – Sophomore Colton King (1g,3a) figured in all four of the Quakers’ goals.
@ NMH 5, Williston 1 – Sophomore Ben Freeman (2g,1a) led the Hoggers’ attack.
@ Brunswick 1, Lawrenceville 0 (OT) – Brunswick sophomore Nick Jermain tallied in OT, and senior Gryphon Richardson came up big with a 22-save shutout.
Westminster 5 @ Hotchkiss 0 – Westminster improved to 11-6-2 behind the shutout play of junior Zac Hamilton. Westminster, which got goals from five different scorers, outshot Hotchkiss, 40-15.
Millbrook 6 @ Albany Academy 3 -- Senior Brad Buvinow (1g,2a) and junior Brett Supinski (2g) led Millbrook’s attack.
Kingswood-Oxford 9 @ Harvey 4 – Junior Conor Keenan (3g,1a) and senior Dan Kennedy (2g,1a) lead the Wyverns’ attack. For Harvey, soph Connor Wilson had a hat trick and junior Robert Van Raamsdonk (1g,2a) had three points as well.
@ BB&N 6, Groton 0 – Senior D Connor Hegarty notched two power play goals and added an assist. and junior goalie Steven Grinsztein stopped all 17 shots he faced. BB&N improves to 13-6-2 on the season.
Tilton 5 @ Holderness 5 (OT) -- A late goal by Tilton senior Blaise Healy – his second tally of the game – lifted the Rams to the tie on the road.
@ Rivers 11, St. George’s 0 – Sophomore Ryan Colena stopped all 16 shots he faced. Rivers is now 14-6-2 on the season.
Berwick 6 @ Hebron 4 – Junior James Winkler had a hat trick to lead the Bulldogs’ attack.
Kents Hill 8, Vermont Academy 1 – Senior Mark Dufour notched four goals and junior Jared Cockrell assisted on every one of them to lead the way for Kents Hill, who improve to 15-5-1 in NEPSIHA play.
@ Loomis 4, Deerfield 2 – Senior D Max Harrington had a pair of power play goals and senior goaltender Danny Tirone kicked out 35 of 37 shots to lift the Pelicans to 12-7-1 on the season. Deerfield drops to the .500 mark (8-8-2) in NEPSIHA play.
Thayer 3 @ Lawrence 2 – Junior Rob McGovern kicked out 42 shots and Thayer got goals from three different scorers. LA outshot the Tigers, 44-25. With the win, Thayer moves a game over .500 (9-7-2).
Dexter 8 @ Pingree 0 – Junior Joe Kelly stopped all 12 shots he faced to pick up the shutout for #5-ranked Dexter, now 16-1-5.
@ Brooks 2, St. Mark’s 1 – A goal by senior Greg Conrad late in the second was the difference in this one. Brooks sophomore goalender Max Prawdzik (22/23) and St. Mark’s senior Tanner McPhee (21/23) both had strong games. Brooks is 10-5-5 on the season.
@ Nobles 2, Governor’s 1 (OT) – An OT goal from freshman Colin White lifted Nobles to the home win. Earlier, Nathan Ferriero’s second period power play goal had given Governor’s a 1-0 lead, which held up until the final minute of play, when senior D Tyler Wood tied the game up for host Nobles. In net, senior Connor Maher (33/34) picked up the win; Gov’s senior Brendan McMemimen (27/29) took the hard-luck loss.
Milton 3 @ St. Paul’s 2 – A goal by junior defenseman Patryk Krzesaj with 3:48 remaining lifted the Mustangs to the road win. Milton outshot St. Paul’s, 46-31. Sophomore Drew Hotte had 29 saves for Milton; senior Michael Pinios had 43 for St. Paul’s.
