Sat. 1/28/12

Sat. Jan. 28 Highlights
@ Cushing 5, Belmont Hill 3: Three-point efforts from senior Collin Bourque (1g, 2a) and sophomore Shane Kavanagh (2g, 1a) helped Cushing snap a three-game losing streak with an impressive 5-3 home victory over Belmont Hill. The Penguins held a 47-33 shot advantage in the game. Cushing senior Liam Moorfield-Yee kicked out 30 of 33 in the win.

Brooks 4 @ Governor’s 2: Brooks junior goalie Colin Langham made 33 saves on 35 shots and Brooks got a huge upset win at Governor’s Academy. Senior forward Nick Potter picked up two assists and then iced it with an empty-netter with just under two minutes remaining. Since picking up an upset of their own over Cushing on January 20th, Governor’s has lost four straight.

@ Westminster 4, Kent 4: Senior defenseman Andy Michailidis tied the score with 1:31 remaining and Westminster escaped with a 4-4 tie against suddenly red-hot Kent. Kent outshot Westminster 34-24, but senior Patrick Spano made 30 saves before leaving his crease late in favor of an extra attacker. Westminster senior forward Emilio Audi (2g, 1a) and Kent senior defenseman Perry Holcombe (1g, 2a) led their respective teams with three points each.

@ BB&N 6, St. George’s 0: Host Host BB&N routed St. George’s. The Knights got two goals apiece from senior captains Aidan Hartigan and Matt Pugh. Sophomore goaltender Steven Grinsztein did all that was asked of him, turning away all 21 St. George’s shots.

Holderness 3 @ Pingree 0: Holderness junior captain Francis Parenteau scored twice as Holderness blanked Pingree 3-0. Pingree senior Scott Caradonna played well (44 saves) but he didn’t get much help from his offense, as Pingree only forced Holderness senior Andrew Munroe to make 17 saves for his shutout.

@ Williston-Northampton 6, Albany Academy 3: Williston jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back, getting a 6-3 upset win over #7 Albany Academy. Six different players scored for Williston, and junior Matt Beliveau made 23 saves to earn the win. Junior Derek Barach scored twice for Albany in a losing effort. Albany Academy lost its second game in a row, doubling its season loss total in one week.

Northfield-Mt. Hermon 6 @ Tilton 2: Senior Brandon Bete (2g), juniors Bron Loiselle (1g,1a) and Spencer Lee (1g,1a), and sophomores Corey Moriarty (1g,1a) and Carolos Fornaris (2a) each had two points in NHM’s road win at Tilton this afternoon. NMH junior goaltender Ben Csiernik kicked out 25 of 27 shots to earn the win.

@ Salisbury 6 Berkshire 3: Junior forward Anthony DiFruscia scored twice as #6 Salisbury doubled up #8 Berkshire in a battle of Top 10 teams. Salisbury junior goaltender Tim Ernst picked up the win, making 24 saves. Shots were an even 27 a side.

@ Vermont Academy 12, St. Thomas More 2: Vermont freshman Cam Wright scored a hat trick and added two assists as his team rolled over St. Thomas More by a score of 12-2. Vermont Academy enjoyed a 58-16 shot advantage.

Rivers 4 @ Middlesex 3: One day after taking #1 Nobles to the limit in a 5-4 loss, Rivers used two third period goals to earn a 4-3 comeback win over Middlesex. Freshman goalie Ryan Colena made 28 saves to overcome a 31-24 Middlesex shot advantage. Junior Chris Jellison scored twice for Middlesex in defeat.

@ Taft 4, Trinity-Pawling 2: Junior captain Al Nejmeh scored twice as Taft beat Trinity-Pawling 4-2 at home. Taft junior goalie Ryan Coon kicked out 18 of 20 shots to earn the win. T-P junior forward Andrew Zona (1g, 1a) figured in both of his team’s goals. Taft outshot the visitors from New York 34-20.

Hoosac 5 @ Worcester Academy 5: Hoosac and Worcester Academy battled to a 5-5 tie in a game that featured eight second period goals, six of which came on the powerplay. Hoosac junior Phillipe Gadoury scored four goals -- all in the second period-- to pace the visitors offensively. Worcester held a slight 35-33 shot advantage.

Millbrook 7 @ Kingswood-Oxford 1: Millbrook scored five goals in the first period – each from a different goal scorer – and rolled to a 7-1 win. Millbrook outshot K-O 55-11.

Exeter 4 @ St. Sebastian’s 1: Senior Brian Hart (1g,3a) and PG Matt Beattie (2g,1a) were a bit more than the Arrows could handle tonight in Needham, Mass. Senior Danny O’Regan scored St. Seb’s lone goal on a breakaway. Exeter, due to injuries, was without five of their rostered players but brought up reinforcements from the JV’s.

@ Milton 3, New Hampton 1: Juniors Anthony Sabitsky and Elliot Vorel figured in all three of the Mustangs’ goals.

@ Pomfret 7, Canterbury 6 (OT): PG Ryan Hall scored in OT to give Pomfret a much-needed win. Senior D Jay Kourkoulis had a pair of goals for Pomfret. Canterbury senior Nic Pierog had a hat trick in a losing cause.

Hotchkiss 5 @ Deerfield 2: Hotchkiss went on the road and took a 5-2 decision from Deerfield. Hotchkiss senior Daniel Viger made 22 saves on 24 shots to earn the win.

@ Avon 3, Choate 1: Trailing Choate 1-0 in the third period, Avon scored three times in just over three minutes and won 3-1. Avon senior Michael Santaguida was strong in net, making 25 saves. Avon has won three in a row.

Andover 7 @ Loomis-Chaffee 3: PG forward Tim Driscoll and sophomore forward Michael Lata each scored two goals and Andover coasted past Loomis, 7-3. Loomis senior Austin King (1g, 2a) figured in all three of his team’s goals. The visitors held a significant 49-26 shot advantage.

Groton 10 @ Roxbury Latin 1: Senior Mike Doherty’s hat trick led the way in a 10-1 Groton win over RL. Doherty – who also added two assists – was the only Groton player to score multiple times. Groton fired 50 shots on goal, compared to only 13 for the hosts.
