Wed. 1/25/12
Wed. Jan. 25 Highlights
Berkshire 1 @ Hotchkiss 0: Senior Brian Brown’s third period goal was the difference as Berkshire prevailed over Hotchkiss 1-0 in a defensive struggle. Berkshire senior Pat Feeley (24 saves) and Hotchkiss junior Andrew Lux (25 saves) were both strong in net. Berkshire has now won seven in a row.
@ Exeter 3, Kimball Union 3: In the marquee matchup of the day, Kimball Union and Exeter played to a 3-3 draw. KUA never led, coming back from an early 2-0 deficit and eventually tying the game with only 1:54 remaining and goalie Eric Bogart (26 saves) on the bench. KUA junior Casey Miller (1g, 2a) figured in all three of his team’s goals, while Exeter post-grad Alex Carlacci had a pair for the hosts. Shots were 39-29 in favor of Kimball Union.
@ Salisbury 5, Gunnery 2: Salisbury once again showed off its depth (goals from five different players) in a 5-2 win over Gunnery. Gunnery didn’t find the back of the net until 10:49 of the third, and by then it was too late as they were already behind 5-0. Salisbury junior Tim Ernst (23 saves) picked up the win in net.
Kent 4 @ Taft 3: Sophomore Brendan Soucie’s overtime goal gave Kent a 4-3 road win at Taft. Senior Andrew Silard’s two goals during regulation set up Soucie’s OT winner. Junior Charlie Fennell made 26 saves to earn the win between the pipes.
@ Northfield-Mt. Hermon 5, Cushing 3: Junior Bron Loiselle and senior Brandon Bete had two goals apiece as NMH earned a big 5-3 win over Cushing. Sophomore Shane Kavanagh had two goals of his own in a losing effort for the Penguins, who have lost three of their last five.
Winchendon 5 @ Andover 2: Andover was a far-too-gracious host, taking a 2-1 lead into the third but then allowing the visitors to bust out with four unanswered goals. Junior Colin Clapton (3g) and PG Danyil Medvedev (1g,3a) led the Winchendon attack. Junior goalie Simon Jasmin (31/33) earned the win.
Deerfield 8 @ Westminster 7 (OT): Deerfield sophomore Camil Blanchet scored at 3:17 of OT to lift the Big Green to an 8-7 road win at Westminster.
For Blanchet, it was his third goal of the game, and fourth point.
This, as you can see, was a totally insane contest, one that the players on both sides will be talking about for the rest of their lives as Deerfield led 5-0 early in the second, but allowed Westy to come back with six unanswered goals to go up 6-5 early in the third. However, Westminster couldn’t hold onto their bountiful good fortune, and took a very tough loss at home.
The offensive stars in this game (were there any other kind?) were, on the Deerfield side, junior Jordan Jancze (4a), junior Alex Gonye (2g,1a), sophomore Sunho Park (2a), and sophomore Sam Lafferty (2g). For Westy, senior Nick Finn (3a) and junior David Hallisey (2g) were the big guns.
@ Tilton 11, New Hampton 2: Tilton scored eight second period goals in an 11-2 rout of New Hampton. Senior Anthony Flaherty had six points to pace the Tilton offense. Max Woods was the only bright spot for New Hampton, as the post-grad scored both goals for the visitors.
Avon 9 @ Loomis-Chaffee 0: Avon had no trouble with Loomis, scoring twice in the first four minutes and never letting up en route to a 9-0 shutout. Senior Ben Freiberg and junior Cody Doyle combined to keep the Winged Beavers’ net free of pucks, though neither was asked to do any heavy lifting, with four and three saves respectively. Things were a bit busier down the other end, as Avon had 66 shots on goal. Avon junior Armand Uomoleale had a hat trick to lead the offense.
Trinity-Pawling 2 @ Choate 2: Junior defenseman Cody Lefler picked a good time for his first goal of the season, notching the game-tying goal for T-P at 13:50 of the third period. Shots were lopsided in favor of Choate (39-17) but T-P senior Fredrik Melander made 37 saves to keep his team within striking distance.
Nobles 6 @ St. Sebastian’s 2: #1 Nobles keeps rolling along. Junior Adam Gilmour (1g,3a) had four points. Junior Chris Calnan (2g), senior Andrew Doane (1g,1a), senior Max Franklin (1g,1a), and eighth grader Colin White (2a) each had two points for the Bulldogs.
Belmont Hill 2 @ Brooks 1: Brooks put a scare into Belmont Hill but eventually fell, 2-1. Junior defenseman Joe McNamara scored the winner and also assisted on the other Belmont Hill goal. Shots were fairly even, with Bel Hill holding a 23-21 edge.
@ Lawrence 5, Governor’s 1: Senior Devin Tringale scored twice, and junior Thomas Newton and senior Tyler Whitney added three assists each as Lawrence rolled over Governor’s. Lawrence senior Nathaniel Heilbron kicked out 28 of 29 shots to pick up the win.
@ Millbrook 4, Williston 2: Millbrook took control of this one with three second-period goals, two of which came off the stick of senior Phil DiGiacomo, a Montreal native, and one from PG Penn Sednaoui, who also had an assist in the game. Millbrook junior goalie Anthony Kuhnreich (30/32) earned the win.
Kents Hill 4 @ NYA 2: Junior Mark Dufour (2g,1a) figured in three of Kents Hill’s four goals.
@ Holderness 5, Brewster 4: After dropping their last two, Holderness (12-4-1) got back on the winning track, but they had to come back from a 4-2 second period deficit to do so.
Senior Connor Loree (2g,2a) had a big all-around day – and also scored the game winner for Holderness.
Junior Andrew Hood (2g,2a) figured in all four Brewster goals.
Brunswick 3 @ Pomfret 1: Senior Kevin Duane (2g), and senior Luke Esposito (2a), led the way for Brunswick.
Brunswick outshot Pomfret, 45-20. Junior Gryphon Richardson (19/20) earned the win in the Brunswick net; Pomfret junior Nick Ellis (43/45) was the hard-luck loser.
BB&N 5 @ Groton 1: BB&N got goals from five different goal scorers and sophomore Steven Grinsztein kicked out 21 of 22 to lead the way for the Knights.
@ St. Paul’s 6, Thayer 1: Senior David Chester (2g), senior Josh Dickman (1g,1a), and junior Charles-Alexandre Plaisir (1g,1a) each had two points for St. Paul’s.
St. Paul’s junior goaltender Michael Pinios came up big again, kicking out 22 of 23 to earn the win.
Berwick 10 @ Proctor 8: This was an 8-8 game until late in the third, but Berwick broke through for the last two goals.
Sophomore James Winkler notched a hat trick for Berwick.
