Wed. Jan. 11 Highlights

@ Westminster 4, Taft 3:
Senior forward Nick Finn scored with 4:06 remaining to thwart Taft’s third period comeback and lead Westminster to a 4-3 win. Finn also had two assists and finished with three points, while junior Al Nejmeh (2g, 1a) figured in all three Taft goals. Westminster outshot Taft 40-30.

Tabor 4 @ Cushing 2: Junior goalie Joseph Noonan made 28 saves, senior Kevin Salvucci scored two goals, and Tabor earned a huge 4-2 upset win at Cushing. Cushing led 1-0 heading into the third but Tabor scored four times, including a Salvucci empty-netter to ice it. Cushing – which had won six in a row – can get back on track at home against Deerfield Friday night.

@ Avon 6, Hotchkiss 1: Michael Santaguida turned aside 34 of 35 shots and senior defenseman Colin Sullivan had two goals in a 6-1 Avon win. The Beavers poured 48 shots on two different Hotchkiss goaltenders and got points from 11 different players.

@ Tilton 5, Andover 4: Tilton scored three goals in the third period to come back from a 4-2 deficit and get a 5-4 home win over Andover. The game featured nine different goal scorers and only 47 total shots.

Portledge 5 @ Lawrenceville 4: Junior forward Michael Conslato had a hat-trick –including the game winner with 46 seconds left – to give Portledge the win in a New Jersey prep matchup. Portledge freshman Jeremy Bracco added to his impressive point total with a goal and three assists, while post-grad Matt Santucci (2g, 1a) paced the offense for Lawrenceville.

Millbrook 3 @ Brunswick 2: A goal by senior captain Kevin Altidor 2:01 into overtime gave Millbrook a 3-2 road win at Brunswick. Millbrook junior goalie Anthony Kuhnreich made 33 saves to earn the win in net.

@ Holderness 4, Winchendon 3: An Andrew Walsh goal midway through the third period proved decisive for Holderness in a win over Winchendon. Holderness outshot the visiting side 40-25, and is now 11-2 on the season.

Rivers 3 @ Pomfret 1: Rivers freshman Ryan Colena kicked out 19 of 20 Pomfret shots to pick up the win.

@ Exeter 6, Berwick 2: Senior forward Michael St. Denis had a goal and two assists as Exeter kept rolling along with a 6-2 win over Berwick. It was a relatively easy day to be an Exeter goaltender, as three goalies saw a total of 16 shots. Down at the other end, senior Jay Finch was a bit busier, making 34 saves on 40 shots in a losing effort.

@ Choate 6, Canterbury 5: Choate scored three times in the final 11 minutes to narrowly avoid being upset at home by Canterbury. Choate seniors Bill Seligman and Ben Foster each had two goals and three assists for the hosts, who move to 9-3 on the season.

@ Kent’s Hill 2, Brewster 1: Senior Carson Johnstone and junior Caleb Fizer scored just over a minute apart in the third period to give Kent’s Hill a come-from-behind win. Brewster outshot the hosts 19-17 in a game that was hardly an offensive display.

Albany Academy 6 @ South Kent 2: Albany Academy got two goals apiece from its three leading scorers – Tyler Hynes, Mark Knowlton and Derek Barach – in a 6-2 win at South Kent.

@ Kent 4, Trinity-Pawling 2: T-P senior goalie Fredrik Melander did his best to keep his team in the game, but Kent’s offense was too strong and the home side came away with a 4-2 win. Senior Boo Nieves assisted on all four Kent goals, and defenseman Perry Holcombe found the back of the net twice to lead the offense.

@ St. Paul’s 6, Milton 2: Milton went up to Concord and outshot St. Paul’s 27-25 but couldn’t come away with a win as junior Michael Pinios made 25 saves for the hosts. Both Milton goals came on the powerplay while St. Paul’s scored six times 5-on-5. Junior forward Brendan Boyce had two goals for St. Paul’s.

@ Middlesex 10, Portsmouth Abbey 2: It was a long ride back to Portsmouth for the Abbey after Middlesex put up 10 goals in a lopsided affair. This one was never close as Middlesex scored six times in the first and never looked back. Shots were 49-23 in favor of the hosts.

Kimball Union 12 @ Vermont Academy 0: Kimball Union went up to Vermont and blasted Vermont Academy 12-0. It didn’t take the visitors long to assert their dominance and they didn’t let up. KUA senior goaltender Evan Russell had did all that was asked of him, making eight saves to keep Vermont off the board.

@ Berkshire 5, Northfield-Mt. Hermon 2: Berkshire killed off five penalties and even added two shorthanded goals for good measure in a 5-2 win over NMH. NHM didn’t take a single penalty, but that’s likely the only positive the visitors can take from a game in which they were outshot 42-15. Berkshire sophomore Craig Puffer (2g, 1a) and senior Kevin Rooney (3a) each had three points in the win.

@ Kingswood-Oxford 7, St. Thomas-More 2: Senior captain Taylor Waybright (2g, 1a) had three points to lead K-O past St. Thomas-More 7-2. K-O junior Anthony Giordano got the win in net, making 30 saves.

Harvey 6 @ Hamden Hall 1: Senior Richard Schulman managed to lower his points-per-game average while scoring a hat-trick in Harvey’s 6-1 win; Schulman has 33 points in just 10 games this season. Harvey freshman Robert Massimi made 29 saves to earn the win in goal.

@ Brooks 6, St. George’s 2: Senior Packy Jones had two goals and an assist to lead the Brooks offense in a 6-2 win over St. George’s. Brooks had a lopsided 48-17 shot advantage.

St. Mark’s 14 @ Roxbury Latin 1: St. Mark’s scored 26 seconds into the game, and it only got worse from there for RL, as the Lions put up two touchdowns on the hosts.

Williston-Northampton 6, Worcester Academy 1: Sophomore Nick Idi and PG Ole Setsaas had two goals apiece. Hopefully, Worcester goalie Chris Hemhauser gets tomorrow off after facing 51 Williston shots.

North Yarmouth 2 @ Pingree 2: Pingree captain Nate Soder tied things up with 8:06 left in regulation and the extra session proved indecisive as NYA and Pingree skated to a 2-2 tie. Shots were 42-24 in favor of Pingree, but NYA PG goalie Jeremy Doyle made 42 saves to keep things level. Sophomore Colton Ackerman had both goals for North Yarmouth.

Div. I Rankings
Given that we are well past the season's halfway point, today we sharpened up the #2 pencils, plugged this years's game results into the NEPSIHA formula, and, just like that, came up with these standings.

1. Nobles
2. Winchendon
3. Westminster
