Sat. Jan. 30 Highlights
Kent 2 @ Westminster 0 - Recent Brown recruit Marco De Filippo stopped all 33 shots he faced for the shutout. Kent got the first of its two goals from Matt McDonald, who walked in off the right half wall and roofed one on Westy's Patrick Spano for an unassisted goal with two minutes left in the second. Early in the third, Noel Acciari, off the draw, pushed it to Drew Brown, who snapped one home from the slot. #6-ranked Westy outshot #1-ranked Kent 33-28 but, despite the shot totals, there were very few good scoring opportunities in this game - for either team. However, Kent did a good job recognizing chances when they arose, making quality shots that resulted in a couple of goals.
@ Avon Old Farms 4, Choate 1 -- #10-ranked Avon Old Farms outworked and outhustled #3 Choate from the opening faceoff, and Morgan Mullen put the Winged Beavers on the scoreboard a little over a minute into the game. Having set the tone, Avon added two more - from Quinn Smith and KJ Tiefenwerth -- before the end of the first. Connor Doyle added a goal midway through the second to make it 4-0. Choate began to pull together midway through the second, and got an Alex Hagen goal to make it 4-1. But the Wild Boars could get no closer. Josh Dionne had another strong performance in the Avon net, kicking out 35 of 36. Avon is undefeated in their last seven games.
@ Cushing 1, Exeter 1 - A goaltenders' duel between Chad Hardy (38/39) and Max Fenkell (26/27) produced no winner.
@ Deerfield 5, Hotchkiss 3 - A resurgent Deerfield squad got goals from five different scorers. In net, Connor Riley kicked out 30 of 33 shots, besting Jay Williams (24/29).
@ Salisbury 4, Berkshire 1 - Max Edson broke up a 1-1 tie with a pair of goals 38 seconds apart early in the third period. Gabe Antoni had 29 saves on 30 shots.
Belmont Hill 6 @ Berwick 1 -Mike McNamara (1g,2a), Devin Albert (2g), John Caldwell (1g,1a) and Nick Tierney (2a) paced the offense for #5-ranked Belmont Hill. Derek Metcalfe kicked out 22 of 23 shots for the win.
@ Delbarton 10, Fairfield Prep 2 - Yale recruit Kenny Agostino (5g) and Princeton recruit Michael Ambrosia (2g,4a) led Delbarton, now 15-0-0 on the season.
Holderness 7 @ New Hampton 6 - This game was actually 3-2 going into the third, whereupon each team scored four goals. Eric Rochefort (2g,1a) was the big gun for Holderness. And John Humphrey (2g,2a) had a big day for New Hampton.
St. Paul's 6 @ Lawrence 2 - Jonathan Liau had three goals (the last was an empty-netter) for St. Paul's. Derick Roy was strong in goal, stopping 35 of 37.
Andover 4 @ Loomis 1 - Eric Yoon kicked out 26 of 27 shots, Garnet Hathaway had a pair of assists, and goals came from four different scorers.
Milton 4 @ Thayer 0 - Sean Dougherty had a 25-save shutout for the Mustangs.
@ Taft 3, Trinity-Pawling 1 - Michael Petchonka stopped 13 of 14 shots, and the Rhinos got goals from three different scorers.
@ Dexter 3, Brooks 1 - Dexter got goals from three different scorers, outshot Brooks 54-11, and improved to 17-0-0. Brooks goaltender Tyler Stillings stopped 51 shots for the hard-luck loss.
Hebron 6 @ Brewster 4 - Drake Hart (2g), Nate Dupere (1g,1a), and Andrew Bettencourt (1g,1a) each had two points for the Lumberjacks. Brewster's Yegor Bezuglyy had a hat trick.
Rivers 7 @ Middlesex 6 (OT) - A Tom Manna goal at 2:29 of OT lifted Rivers to a 7-6 win at Middlesex. Mike Whouley and Connor Dempsey each had two goals for Rivers. Joe Pascucci had a pair for Middlesex.
@ BB&N 6, Worcester Academy 2 - Eric Danilchuk had a pair of goals for BB&N.
@ Williston-Northampton 7, Albany Academy 3 - Garrett Lessard (3g) and P.J. McCadden (1g,2a) led the Williston scorers.
