GDA Tops BB&N
Cambridge, Mass. -- The game this typist had intended to cover today was #7 Thayer vs. #5 Belmont Hill and to that end journeyed up Belmont Hill at 4 pm only to find out – doh! – that the game was at the Canton Sportsplex. Believe me, it’s not the first time it’s happened, though it is the first time in several years – the law of averages catching up, it appears. Anyway, forced to bag a game between two top ten teams (Thayer won 6-3), my choices were down to one, so I made it over to BB&N in time to see GDA beat a game, though significantly less talented, BB&N squad. Brian McGuirk had three points (2g,1a). Each of his goals, the second of which was on the powerplay, were on shots ripped from the right faceoff circle. He also clanged one off the crossbar. Brian Morrissey also had a pair for the Governors.
In other games, #2 Avon topped #1 Hotchkiss in the big tilt of the day as junior Jon Quick picked up a 23-save shutout…. #7 Thayer, as we mentioned, topped #5 Belmont Hill, 6-3, with freshmen Max Gratchev (2g,2a) and Brian Gibbons (2g,2a), and junior Pierce Norton (4a) all having four-point games… #9 Taft outshot Westminster 46-15 en route to a 5-1 win. Keith Shattenkirk had a pair of goals…. Chris Bourque (1g,4a), Keith Yandle (1g,2a), Boomer Ewing (1g,2a),and Billy Ryan (2a) ripped it up in #4 Cushing’s 6-3 home win over Tabor…. #8 Andover was upset at home, 3-2, by Bridgton Academy… For full box scores of all these games and many others, please see above.
