Micaela Long scored two goals goaltender Jennie Bellonio held off Nobles to lead Pomfret to the 2005 Harrington title today in Dedham, Mass.
With the win, Pomfret avenged their loss to Nobles in last December's Harrington championship game.
Long, a senior from South Boston, put Pomfret up 2-1 early in the first, sweeping in on a 2-on-1 and nailing the top corner. Freshman Ali Vakos got the assist on the goal.
Late in the second, the puck came off the backboards behind Nobles goalie Kylie Stephens, and bounced past the first wave of attackers and onto Long's stick. 2-0, Pomfret, with an assist going to freshman Alex Campione.
With 5:04 left in the third period, senior defenseman Jenny Cedorchuk took a shot through a screen which Pam McDevitt got a piece of on the way through to cut the Pomfret lead to 2-1.
Nobles turned up the heat a notch after that, but couldn't get the tying goal.
"These are both great teams," said Pomfret coach Sarah Wood. "We squeaked a couple by them and were lucky to come away with the win. Today it went our way. Two teams this talented are bound to have good games."
"Micaela came up big. Bellonio was excellent. Up and down the bench, it was a great effort from everyone -- seniors to freshmen. Everyone played well and contributed."
Nobles coach Tom Resor was impressed with Long's performance. "She's a great player," he said. "Very opportunistic. Both those goals were goal scorer's goals."
He also saw a lot of positive things in the loss. "They're an excellent team, but we took it to them and they had to play hard to beat us. We play a lot of kids, and they gained from this. Over the season, a lot of positive things will come from this."
Cushing Tournament:
Ryabkina Leads Berkshire to Title
Ukranian native Liza Ryabkina had a hand in all four Berkshire goals as the Bears topped Northwood to take the 2005 Watkins Tournament title at Cushing Academy this afternoon.

Choate Knocks off Nobles
This afternoon at Dedham, Mass., visiting Choate edged Nobles, 5-4. It was the fourth straight one-goal game Nobles has played, and this time they came out on the losing end. It was Nobles' first loss of the season. Last season, Nobles lost just three times -- to Choate, Brooks, and Lawrence -- en route to the NEPSIHA Div. I championship.

At Pomfret, Conn., host Pomfret easily handled Williston, 7-1.... At Byfield, Mass., St. Mark's topped Governor Dummer, 4-2.... At Deerfield, Mass., Deerfield topped New Hampton, 5-2.... At Andover, NH, Proctor topped St. Thomas Aquinas, 6-2.... At Groton, Mass., Lawrence Academy upended St. George's, 5-2.

Help Wanted!
Here at the U.S. Hockey Report we've made a commitment to girls' prep hockey this season. Our goal is simply to build the site up until it reaches a level of readership and participation within hailing distance of the boys.
However, we have a long way to go. The way USHR's prep reporting system works is simply this: each prep school coach has administrative access to the site, where templates for schedules, rosters, and box scores can be found. Once a template is filled out, it is instantly uploaded onto the site. It's pretty easy to get the hang of and, best of all, it doesn't cost the school a single penny. It's a great way to create a historical archive, and at the same time provide information on different schools' programs. It's free advertising, and allows college coaches to keep up on players they might be interested in recruiting.
Here are some stats:
We have 60 schedules uploaded to USHR. Of those, 52 are boys' schedules while only eight are girls' schedules (Thank you: BB&N, Deerfield, Pomfret, Taft, Middlesex, St. Mark's, Northwood, and Trinity College School of Ontario).
The numbers are similar for rosters. Of the 62 rosters we have, 55 are boys', and just seven are girls' (basically, the same group as above).
To make the U.S. Hockey Report a valuable tool for coaches, fans, parents, and players, we need to do better. To that end, we ask coaches to please take an hour some evening and enter in your team's schedule, roster, and results.
We are also looking for someone to work as an intern, someone who is up-to-date on the girls game who would like to contribute short items of general interest about the top players and programs, and cover key games including the playoffs.
Also, for next week's tournaments, we are looking for reporters from each school hosting a holiday tournament, people who are able to send in scores in a timely fashion so we can get the word out to the rest of the hockey world.
We also ask anybody -- parents, fans, alums, coaches -- attending prep games to jot down the important details and then shoot them to us in an email ASAP after the game, and we will then include them in our game recaps (please see the boy's prep page for an idea of how this will look.)

Milton Edges Exeter
Milton, Mass. -- Milton Academy, behind goals from senior Maddie MacMillan and sophomore Chelsea Locarno and strong goaltending from junior Amanda Rothschild, edged Exeter, 2-1, here today.
Milton broke on top in the first period when freshman Hillary McNamara curled around behind the Exeter net and put it out front for MacMillan, who knocked it home at the 5:41 mark.
Exeter came to life a bit in the second, but wasn't able to get anything past Milton's Rothschild.
At 11:50 of the third Locarno scored what would turn out to be the game winner when Marissa Simmons made a nice move to get her the puck and Locarno, stationed to the right of the crease banged it home to put Milton up 2-0.
It would turne out to be a valuable goal for, as time wound down, Exeter pulled their goalie for the extra skater, and cashed in after sophomore defensman Madison Gilmore took a shot from the right point and freshman Lauren Greer lifted the rebound over Rothschild's left pad and into the net with 25 seconds left on the clock.
That was as close as it would get. The final shots for the game were 28-20, Milton.
"That was an important win for us," Milton head coach Wendy Holden said afterward. "Last year we lost the Exeter game. This year we wanted to play our game. I was most pleased with our play in the first period. And I was impressed with our penalty kill. Amanda Rothschild made some huge saves at the end, which turned out to be a little more exciting than I would have liked. At this point of the season, we're just working on gutting out wins."
Exeter coach Michelle Mancuso wasn't pleased with what she saw. "We played terribly," she said. "We came out flat. No focus at all."

Nobles Edges Loomis in OT
Dedham, Mass. – Noble & Greenough squeaked past Loomis Chaffee, 2-1, on an overtime goal by junior Laura Nelson.
On the winning goal, senior Pam McDevitt came off the right side boards to the middle and took a shot which deflected off the stick of Loomis sophomore goalie Kiera Kingston, hit the chest of a Nobles player, and dropped to the crease where Nelson knocked it home from a scrum.
After a scoreless first period, during which Nobles emerged unscathed from a Loomis 5-on-3 power play, the hosts went up 1-0 with 9:05 left in the second. Junior Broghan Cully and freshman Corey Stearns were cycling the puck in the corner when Stearns saw senior defenseman Jenny Cedorchuk open at the right point and hit her with a perfect pass. Cedorchuk snapped off a shot that beat Kingston cleanly.
Nobles took that 1-0 lead into the third period, but then, about seven minutes in, Molly Kate Devin and Leanna Coskren were whistled for penalties 14 seconds apart, giving Loomis a lengthy 5-on-3. This time they didn't escape it, as Loomis forward Amy Allen, playing the point on the power play, put one on net, right along the ice. Junior forward Lauren Ragen tipped it, beating Stephens low to the glove side to make it 1-1 with 9:04 left in the period.
Loomis still had over a minute of a 5-on-4 powerplay, but couldn't gain the lead.
Stearns had a nice opportunity for Nobles with 10 seconds remaining but Kingston got a piece of it and the puck deflected wide, out of harm's way.
The game went to overtime, where Nelson's goal sent the home crowd home happy.
Afterward, Loomis Chaffee head coach Ned Parsons said,"The third was our best period, but at the end and in OT we ran out of gas. They (Nobles) just come at you and come at you."
Nobles coach Tom Resor said, "It was a tremendous game and I'm happy with the way we played. It was a good up-and-down game and both teams worked hard. Our team is different this year. For three years we had Erica (Nakamura) and Sarah (Parsons) on the power play. This year we're using all three lines. When we keep the puck low we get our chances."
Other Action:
At Cambridge, Mass., Pomfret blanked BB&N, 6-0.... Up in New Hampshire, Proctor Academy shut out Vermont Academy, 5-0. If anyone out there has other scores, with or without additional details, please forward them on to us. Thank you.

Andover Starts Out Strong
Andover, Mass. – Phillips Andover outclassed BB&N here today, starting off the season with an 8-0 win.
The seniors led the way offensively, as Melissa Tetreau (2g,1a), Julie Wadland (1g,2a), and Lindsay Moramarco (3a) each had three-point games. Another big point producer was junior Megan Shea, with two goals of her own. Sophomore Stephanie Clegg and junior Alessandra Moss each added a goal.
The shutout was shared three ways, with Ansley LaHue, Joy Joung, and Alissa Fromkin each playing one period.
Andover has an experienced, veteran team, as only three new players are in the lineup this season. BB&N, on the other hand, is a young, inexperienced team with just two seniors -- and three freshman and two eighth graders.
“I liked the way we moved the puck tonight,” said Andover coach Martha Fenton. “We got some good opportunities and we capitalized on them.”
BB&N coach Ed Bourget, who is filling in while Courtney Kennedy takes the year off to play for the U.S. Women’s Olympic Team, said, “We showed some flashes where we were able to play evenly with them. But we need to play fundamentally sound hockey for the whole game. We can’t have breakdowns. We have to play a complete game.”
Other Action:
Hadley Gleason notched two goals and Lauren Greer added a goal and an assist to lead Exeter to a 3-3 tie with Hebron today… Defending prep champs Noble & Greenough trounced Thayer, 8-0…. Proctor topped Holderness, 3-1… Greenwich Academy, on the road, defeated Kingswood-Oxford, 4-2, with the final goal an empty-netter....
